The First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, established in 1881 and affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association of North America, is an ethical and liberal religious community dedicated to promoting the ongoing search for truth and meaning.

Our Mission
* We are humanist - We understand reality through human experience, enlightened reason, scientific method and the democratic process. We stand in awe of the universe and are humbled by life's mysteries but look for natural rather than supernatural explanations. We find the central source of power and goodness within the human heart, mind and spirit. We accept that our lives are finite but have faith that our creativity, compassion and service to others endure.
* We are a community - We exist to provide opportunities for members and non-members to form connections around our shared principles. We support one another in living out our values and pursuing our vision for the future.

Our Values
* We claim the heritage of religious liberty expressed in the Unitarian Universalist tradition and the covenant of free congregations.
* We affirm the inherent worth of the individual. We welcome and accept all without regard to age, race, gender, sexual orientation, status, ability, or heritage; we respect diverse opinions and ideas; we value freedom of conscience.
* We take responsibility for our lives and the world we live in. We affirm our ability and commitment to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.
* We affirm the interdependent web of life and commit ourselves to pursuing lifestyles that are respectful of the natural world and sustainable for future generations.

Our Vision
* We want to nurture a dynamic intergenerational community that offers opportunities for celebration, creative renewal, friendship and mutual support.
* We want to clearly articulate our liberating humanist and UU message to the larger community and ourselves.
* We want to cultivate critical intelligence within our community by engaging our capacities for learning, providing for the religious and moral education of our children, members and friends throughout their lifespan.
* We want to inspire and encourage those in search of wisdom, wholeness and more meaningful lives.
