FORUM at 9:30 a.m.
Singing Meditation with  Mary Bohman, Ministerial Intern. The purpose of meditation is to find inner peace and slow the busy mind. Singing as a form of meditative practice doesn't require great skill or singing experience-it merely requires an open mind and heart. During this forum, a variety of easy to learn Unitarian Universalist songs will be taught in a supportive environment. Then we will enter into a meditative process that combines communal singing punctuated by silence and breathing. The songs will be repeated until participants are able to move out of "thinking mode" and enter into singing from the heart.

ASSEMBLY at 10:30 a.m.
"Good Grief" with The Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons preaching. Although it unfolds in its own unique way for each of us, the process of grieving is a challenge to our physiological, emotional, social, and spiritual resources. If we do this work well, it becomes a source of growth, which may be the best tribute we can give to the loved ones we have lost. If we turn away from it, in the long run it cripples us, and this is true in our collective public life as well as individually. What does it mean to do mourning well, by ourselves and together?

Greetings from Mount Curve!           FUS logo dark green

What a great time to be a Unitarian in the Twin Cities! Show your UU pride by attending some, or all, of General Assembly, volunteering at the UU booth at Pride, marching with the UU float, reading and passing along UU views, like Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons' recently published article on immigration in The Star Tribune. There's so much to celebrate; learn more below.

Participate in GA in a way that best matches your life. Here are some options to consider.

1. Attend GA--in Person or Virtually!
Read Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons' words here about why you'll want to attend GA. Click here to apply to serve as a voting delegate representing FUS. Click here to see the schedule of events, and ways you can participate in GA from the comfort of your own home/computer/phone!

2. Host an Attendee!
Meet UUs from around the country and help support local social justice at the same time! Be a host home for GA! Use your spare bedroom to host a GA attendee, and their free-will donation (suggested at $50/night) goes to the Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance to support its work. Transportation will be the responsibility of your guest, though if you're attending, carpooling is recommended. Homes near transit are especially encouraged to volunteer! For more details on the program, and to offer space, contact Catie.

3. Staff the Metro UU Booth at Pride!
The FUS Membership Committee is very excited to be sponsoring a booth at the Pride Festival this year, on June 26 and 27 at Loring Park. We are currently looking for volunteers to staff the booth in two-hour increments. Please stop by the Ask Me table in the Lower Assembly Hall to sign up for a shift.

4. Help with the Float/March in the Parade!
Keep an eye out for more information about opportunities for marching in the Pride Festival parade and helping with the Twin Cities UU float!

5. Gather with the HUUmanists!
In addition to the five days of UU General Assembly events, our congregation will also be hosting a special one-day gathering of UU Humanists from around the country. There will be speakers and workshops and three meals here on Mount Curve on Saturday, June 26. Registration will be $100 for the day, and you can register now by mail to David Shaffer at HUUmanists Association, PO Box 185202, Hamden CT 06518. Online registration should be available soon at www.huumanists.org. Or, if you would like to participate in this one day event with free or reduced registration, Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbbons needs several volunteers to help her set up and to serve the meals. Let Kendyl know if this is a possibility for you.

Religious Education Carnival!
carnivalThe RE Carnival is on June 6, 10:30-11:45 a.m. A golf game, obstacle course, egg relay, and a cupcake walk-these are among the fun things at the RE Carnival this year! Bigger and better than ever! For all kids K-7th grade! OWL youth will be helping staff some events. Please come and have your children participate in a fun RE program wrap up!

On Immigration: "Human beings migrate, to the benefit of all... Nothing about our national immigration policy is either sensible or just. That we talk about 'immigration' policy reveals how partial our perspective is -- because every immigration is also an emigration." writes the Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons in a recently published letter to the editor in The Star Tribune. For a copy of the complete article click here, or visit the Social Action table during social hour. For the Unitarian Universalist Association's view of the immigration issue click here.

Check out the Social Action table in the Lower Assembly Hall for lists of items being collected during the summer for Avenues For Homeless Youth, the Dignity Center and the Currie Avenue Partnership. Click here and scroll to page 7 to get updates on FUS's support of these important organizations, and other opportunities for donations, service and education.

Resource for UU Families
5th grade croppedMake summer a time when your explore ways to volunteer as a family! Our Director of Religious Education, Jan Devor, calls our attention to the website of Doing Good Together. Specifically, their monthly e-newsletter offers timely, flexible, and fun ideas for making volunteering as a family possible -- no matter what kind of crazy schedule you follow!
Join the Habitat Build!habitat build
Volunteers are needed for the Unitarian Universalist Affordable Housing Partnership (UUAHP) build with Twin Cities Habitat For Humanity. FUS and other metro area UU congregations have done a Habitat build every June for many years. This year we will be on the same site chosen by the UUA for work by volunteers from around the country. We will work the week of June 7-11. The UUA Social Justice program will be there a week later. The site is at 1349 Russell Avenue North in north Minneapolis, where Habitat is working on a rehab project.

All skill levels are accepted. Not interested in building, but still want to contribute?  How about providing a lunch on one of the days?  It's good to find a partner for that job!!

For more information visit the SAC table in the Lower Assembly Hall following services on Sundays or contact Jerry Edwards or Carol Koepp.

Visit the FUS Bookstore to purchase the book, Good Without God: What a Billion Nonreligious People Do Believe by Greg Epstein, Humanist Chaplin at Harvard University. Join members of The Humanist Center to discuss it at noon on Sunday, June 20 at FUS.
