election 2010

ASSEMBLY
at 10:30 a.m.
"Notable Judgements and Special Mercies"
Speaker: The Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons.
How did the Puritan concept of history lay the groundwork for our collective idealization of
"America's first Thanksgiving", as well as contemporary Native American reaction to the implications of the common myth? And what are we, as modern pluralists, to make of this historical muddle? Let's sort some of it out together.

Holiday Cheer is HERE!

Bring the children in your life to FUS on Sunday November 28 so they can create Advent wreaths (UU-style!) to use with their families through the holiday season. And be sure to be here on Music Sunday,  December 5, for a "A Winter Journey"!

We Missed You!housing
The weather on Sunday November 21 was treacherous, to be sure -- and very disappointing considering it was our long-anticipated Housing Sunday. As you know, this was the Sunday we scheduled a social justice collection for the Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness. In addition to that, the proceeds for the Soup Lunch are going to St. Stephen's Social Services. Folks who were here were very generous with their contributions, but we want you to have a chance to show your support, as well. Please mail or bring in your support next Sunday. Thank you very much.

Books for Kidswoman with book
FUS is collecting new and gently used children's books for the medical center waiting room at a Navajo Reservation in Arizona now through December 12 so they can be sent to the reservation by Christmas. Please place your donations in the box in the front hallway. And thank you!

FUS Sponsors Families in NeedMVNA logo
Look for gift tags on the evergreen trees in the Lower Assembly Hall. These are holiday requests made by two families the Minnesota Visiting Nurses Agency has matched with FUS. Chose a tag, sign the Gift Log, make the purchase and bring it to FUS by December 12. Click here to learn more about MVNA. Thank you!

Coffee Chatspeople connecting

Sunday Mornings, December 5-19. This month we're trying something new! Come at 9:30 a.m. for time with a tall, warming coffee or tea, a morning treat, your fellow members, and conversations about books, theatre, current films, and -- if you dare -- local politics. Child care is provided; just bring your thoughts for some relaxed conversations, courtesy of your Membership Committee.

Holiday Craft Creation Fair
child showing artThis is not your usual craft fair! Children K-7th grades will be busy making presents for others on December 5 and 12 during the Religious Explorers program time. Kids can move from creating one craft to another, wrap their hand-made gifts, and plan their holiday giving!

And this just in! Donate items for this craft fair! Items needed: retired wooden and metal serving spoons and plastic bottles (with caps 20 oz. or smaller). Thanks!

Cakes, Cookies, Pies and More
The FUS spectacular annual bake sale will be Sunday, December 12, immediately following the service. All of the items will be homemade by FUS members, most of them also members of the FUS Alliance. This sale, known as "Holiday Temptations," is the Alliance's biggest fundraiser for the year and the earnings are used to help pay for many items and projects at FUS. Remember to bring cash or a check with you on the 12th. Everyone wins!
