ASSEMBLY at 10:30 a.m.
"Service Travel"
Speakers: Madalyn Cioci, Joe Lazur and family, Peter D'Ascoli and Barbara Weatherhead, George and Jenna Hutchinson
Combining social justice and service to humankind with world travel is a win-win opportunity. Many FUS members have satisfied the itch to help others by offering service in interesting world cultures. Service travel does not necessarily require specialized talents or skills other than a willingness to work with local populations by cleaning, fixing or building necessary infrastructures or providing basic learning or English language tutoring. Find out how you, too, could participate in an upcoming FUS service trip.

Nature, A Walking Play
Now through September 5
The show is "a mythical telling of Emerson and Thoreau's mutual love affair with the natural world." Nature will be performed outdoors at the MN Landscape Arboretum as a "walking play," taking the audience on a journey through the natural environment as scenes unfold around them. This original work features excerpts from their own writings, creating a bold expression of Emerson and Thoreau's essential and revolutionary philosophies. Nature was produced and created by TigerLion Arts. It has been a rich collaboration between local and national artists led by actor Tyson Forbes, a direct descendant of Ralph Waldo Emerson, who has performed in regional theaters nation wide, including the Guthrie and Ordway." 1964
This Sunday, August 29, join a group of FUS members and friends for a guided tour of the exhibit 1964 at the Walker Art Center. 1964 focuses on works made during a period of tremendous upheaval and transformation politically, socially, and artistically in the U.S. In the year following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the country saw riots erupt in a number of cities; President Lyndon Johnson ordered the first bombings in North Vietnam, and the Beatles invaded with their first concerts and their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. We will meet at the SAC table at noon and walk over to the Walker for an outdoor lunch. Our gallery guide will be FUS member, Caroline Lappin. A gallery pass will need to be purchased by people who are not Walker members.
