10:30 a.m. ASSEMBLY: "The Practice of Poetry"

Speaker: Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons. The human propensity toward expressing our deepest experiences in the form of metaphor and narrative is most clearly on display during the confluence of winter holidays in our culture. The heart of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Solstice has to do with the stories we tell about time, truth, and hope; what it means to be human in the face of a universe that can appear, or may actually be, uncaring. How do we sift the truth that is a gift from the overwhelming poetry of the season, and make it real in our own prosaic lives? Flowers of celebration and concern will be shared at this Assembly, and a Soup Lunch will follow.

12:15 - 12:30 Ceremony for Grieving and Healing

Service Auction Proposals Due

Sunday, January 15

The FUS Board of Trustees invites the committees and groups at FUS to submit proposals for participating in the planning of the annual Service Auction Saturday, March 24, 2012 and the subsequent sharing of the proceeds.

The purpose of the FUS Service Auction is to promote a sense of community within the congregation as well as to raise funds for worthwhile causes both in our congregation and in our wider community.

Proposals should include:
1. The specific purpose funds would be used for
2. The amount of money you are hoping to raise
3. A percentage of the net profit you are willing to work for (net profit the last few years has been roughly $20,000)
4. The approximate number of volunteers your group can realistically commit to the Service Auction - both planning and event volunteers.

Please submit your proposals to the FUS office by Sunday January 15!
