9:30 a.m. FORUM: Organizing Against the Marriage Amendment

Leader: Juliana Keen, Minnesotans United for All Families. Join us for a discussion on how to effectively organize against the proposed Marriage Amendment. Come to this mini workshop where you will learn how to have effective conversations with your fellow citizens that will lead to the defeat of this harmful Amendment.

If we did not grow up as a Unitarian or a Unitarian Universalist, how do we find it? And do we negotiate the plurality of beliefs in this faith tradition?

This month our group will focus on poetry that deals with change - whether it be in the natural world, in society, or in one's personal life. If you a poem to share, bring along a few copies. There will be some light refreshments. This group is facilitated by Audrey Kingstrom as a collaboration with the Humanists of MN.

Ethical Eating Series
Our industrial food system has morphed into an international enterprise that demands our moral attention. This series is designed to help us reconsider our food choices and eating habits to better reflect our UU and humanist values. Join us on Wednesdays, 7:00pm in the Dietrich Room on October 10, 24 and November 7

Thank you for your generosity, FUS!  In August, $523.50 was collected for Minnesotans United for All Families and $523.50 for Protect Minnesota. In September, $1,053 was collected for the Center for Victims of Torture. At the Fall Equinox celebration, 330 pounds of food was collected for the NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center food shelf.

Raising Freethinkers, a book with two chapters written by Jan Devor and complied by Dale McGown, has now been translated into Polish! This book is the companion book to Parenting Beyond Belief and gives parents ideas about non-theist activities which can celebrated with families.

 


Retreat to the Woods

Sign up now for the Retreat to the Woods! This annual retreat will be held October 5-7 at the Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement. It's FUS's annual escape-to-nature weekend, where we enjoy time together in a natural setting. Costs are very reasonable and scholarships are available. Click here to learn more.

Sermon Contest

Prairie Star District announces a Sermon Contest. PSD is seeking a sermon that could be delivered in pulpits across the district on the Sunday of our 2013 Annual Conference that reflects our conference theme, "Inspire the Future We Envision." Contest is open to lay people and clergy in PSD. Deadline to enter is November 19, 2012. Click here for information about the Conference and the contest.

Voting Amendment Forum

First Universalist Church, Chalice Room
3400 Dupont Ave S, Minneapolis
Join UUs for a 90-minute educational forum and Q&A with First Universalist member and Minnesota Secretary of State, Mark Ritchie. He will discuss the proposed constitutional amendment related to elections and voting. Rev. Justin Schroeder will introduce the program. It will be followed by a 30-minute MUUSJA action planning event. A light lunch will be served starting at 1:15pm.
