This Sunday, November 25 9:30am Peaceful Warriors
Presenter: Deacon Warner. Peaceful Warriors chronicles a 2010 bus trip by a group of Veterans for Peace to the School of the Americas protest at the gates of Fort Benning. The experience is seen through the eyes of Jill and Lorenzo, two high school filmmakers who accompanied the group on its annual journey from Minnesota to Columbus, Georgia. The student filmmakers originally joined the trip to merely document the bus ride and vigil, but ended up becoming the focus of the film. The story of the journey and the massive protest outside the school is told from their perspective. FUS member Deacon Warner has supervised the making of this film and it is a moving tribute to our veterans.
10:30am Black Friday and 'Our Covenanted Community' Speaker: Diggitt McLaughlin, Intern Minister. Sometimes as UUs we find ourselves face-to-face with cultural beliefs we do not support. Consider our denomination's early stands on behalf of women's rights and GLBTQ equality, for example. What about when our heart's desire seems to be fed by the message of Black Friday? There will be space within the service itself for brief comments on the sermon.

30 Years of Service to FUS It is with fond memories and regret that we announce the retirement of Seth Peterson from our nursery starting in January. Seth has worked in the nursery giving loving care to our children for close to 30 years. He will be moving to live with sister in northern MN. Jan Devor will be collecting money for a good-bye gift if anyone would like to contribute. We appreciate his dedicated and loving service! |
Gifts for Seniors Donation Opportunity
This holiday season FUS is a donation location for Gifts for Seniors, an area nonprofit that collects new gifts for distribution to isolated seniors. More than 2,300 isolated seniors were reached last year through partner social service agencies. This is an opportunity to bring joy to someone who otherwise would be forgotten during the holidays. FUS Administrator Will Hegeman serves on the Gifts for Seniors board. Feel free to ask him questions about the organization. To learn more, check out the Gifts for Seniors website: www.giftsforseniors.org.
