Heart to Heart

This Sunday,

November 27

9:30 a.m. COMMUNITY TIME

Peace coffee is served, the gallery, library and bookstore are open.

10:30 a.m. ASSEMBLY: "Thinking About the End of the World"

Speaker: Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons. If the climate scholars are to be believed, there are some harsh realities ahead for the human race, and soon - within current lifetimes. Yet warnings that the end is near have been around for as long as we can trace human culture. Something about apocalyptic ideas appeals to the imagination, and intrigues us, but doesn't really motivate changed behavior. Are we as helpless as we appear, or as irresponsible as we fear? Are there preparations that we should be making? And if so, what would move us to start now? Then, in such a context, does our seasonal giving of thanks make any sense at all? The children will help us out with a vegetable meditation.

Congregational Vote

On Sunday, November 20 a Congregational Meeting was held to vote on this motion: "The Congregation authorizes the Board of Trustees to receive and solicit financial contributions for the purpose of evaluating congregational support for the possibility of adding a second ordained minister to the staff of the Society."

There were 120 members of FUS in attendance with 96 voting yes and 24 voting no to the above motion. The meeting not only answered the question of whether to move forward with a fundraising plan for a second minister, it was also a great moment when ideas, concerns, and congregational needs were raised in front of a large number of members.

Frequently asked questions (and their answers) about the second minister process is available online here.

More information about the vote and the next steps is online here.
