This Sunday,

October 30

9:30 a.m. FORUM: "How to Turn Republicans and Democrats into Americans"

Leader: Bill Weir. If we are truly a democracy-if voters get to size up candidates for a public office and choose the one they want-why don't the elections seem to change anything? Because we elect our leaders, and they then govern, in a system that makes cooperation almost impossible and incivility nearly inevitable, a system in which the campaign season never ends and the struggle for party advantage trumps all other considerations. This forum discusses an "Atlantic Monthly" article on how we can change our political system to serve the common good.

10:30 a.m. ASSEMBLY: "Gentle Rest, Gentle Light"

Speaker: Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons. The tradition of Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) calls upon us to confront the reality of death as a constant companion in the course of our everyday lives, and urges us to remain in relationship with the community of the dead whose memories continue to influence us. In a culture that demands constant emotional fortitude and resilience, we must remind ourselves to cherish the profound reflections that loss, grief, and memory have taught us. The FUS Chorus and Orchestra will enrich our reflections with another superb modern requiem.

10:30 a.m. For the Children

Children K-5 will experience a special puppet production about the Day of the Dead by ArtStart, and experience an ofrenda with pictures of loved ones who have died. Click here to learn more. Upper grade classes will meet as usual.

11:30 a.m. Hands-On Service Project

Congregational Vote
November 20
In preparation for the congregational vote on November 20, join FUS members and friends for discussion with board members about the possibility of hiring a second minister.

Click HERE for the dates and times of the discussion sessions AND to see what Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons said about this idea in a recent sermon.

Also, watch the web site for the Sunday Sundown Salon on November 6 at 8:00 p.m. This is an online discussion with Kendyl and board members about this important proposal and vote. This is a great solution for those who can't attend a discussion session in person.

Let's TalkLet's Talk Tablemat

It is the hope of Jan Devor, Director of Religious Education at FUS, that all of our FUS families review a tool that Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota (PPMNS) created for families. PPMNS created a Let's Talk tablemat to be used at the dinner table to open up communication lines about a very broad range of general topics. The Let's Talk Tablemat questions focus on love, respect, relationships, friendship, health etc. and are appropriate for families with kids of any and all ages. Check it out!
