10:30 a.m. ASSEMBLY: "Christmas Brunch"
While many of us will be at home with children or family visitors opening presents, or else out of town to be with loved ones, it is still Sunday morning, and the FUS community will gather. We will be downstairs in the Lower Assembly Hall to share a brunch of kringle pastry and corned beef hash, as well as some informal seasonal memories and music. If your other plans make it possible, please join us.

Light Sharing Celebration
As usual, we'll begin our Christmas Eve gathering with hot chocolate, holiday cookies and informal conversation at 5:00 p.m. in the foyer. Then at 5:30 p.m. we will sing songs, tell stories, decorate the mitten tree, share candle light, and celebrate the universal, human meanings of this special season. Join us for a few moments of calm reflection and community warmth in the midst of the chaos and the cold, as well as the best cityscape view in town. The collection gathered at this service will help supplement the Minister's Discretionary Fund for assisting members and others in need.

Thanks FUS!
With deepest gratitude on behalf of the Downtown Congregations to End Homelessness (DCEH), I want to thank First Unitarian Society for dedicating a Sunday morning collection to the DCEH! We believe that homelessness is morally unacceptable and your contribution will enable us to continue our efforts toward ending homelessness. In addition to the contributions, we hope you will join us by lifting up your voices for needed affordable housing funds in the coming year to help stabilize our communities by adding jobs as well as housing. Thank you!
Heidi Johnson McAllister

Take Action
The governor is working this week on developing the bonding bill to be considered by the next legislature. Please call him to let him know that you support including $40 million for affordable housing in this bill because, besides increasing the supply of affordable homes for those with very low incomes, it will add jobs that will stimulate the local economy. Call: Governor Dayton at 651-201-3400.

Service Auction Proposals Due
Sunday, January 15 The FUS Board of Trustees invites the committees and groups at FUS to submit proposals for participating in the planning of the annual Service Auction Saturday, March 24, 2012 and the subsequent sharing of the proceeds. The purpose of the FUS Service Auction is to promote a sense of community within the congregation as well as to raise funds for worthwhile causes both in our congregation and in our wider community. Proposals should include: 1. The specific purpose funds would be used for 2. The amount of money you are hoping to raise 3. A percentage of the net profit you are willing to work for (net profit the last few years has been roughly $20,000) 4. The approximate number of volunteers your group can realistically commit to the Service Auction - both planning and event volunteers. Please submit your proposals to the FUS office by Sunday January 15! |
