Speakers: Sondra Samuels, Executive Director, PEACE Foundation, the driving force behind the North Side Achievement Zone (NAZ) and Nancy Torrison from Kinship of Greater Minnesota. NAZ is looking to FUS and other faith communities to help fill the great need for mentors as they try to eliminate the racial educational achievement gap on the North Side. ASSEMBLY
at 10:30 a.m.
"Heroic Wisdom"

Speaker: The Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons. The Winter 2010 edition of the UU World journal contains an article entitled "Reclaiming Krypton", which deals with some of the generational changes in Unitarian Universalism and Humanism, citing FUS as one specific example. The author proposes that people now entering young adulthood are more eager to avail themselves of wisdom from tradition and from older mentors than the baby boom generation was. Is this true? If so, what are the implications for our movement? Have you ever had a mentor, or been a mentor? Would you like to? At this Assembly, a special collection will be received to support the North Side Achievement Zone.

UUA President on Arizona Shootingstuscon shooting
"I am shocked and profoundly saddened by the news of the shootings in Tucson. Our first response must be one of reaching out in love to the victims, their families, and friends. This is a time for embracing one another and helping each other find strength and solace. I am also deeply disturbed and, frankly, angered that these acts of wanton violence occur repeatedly in America." Click here to read the full statement.
