Greetings from Mount Curve!
Welcome to this special edition of The Unitarian FLASH! There are three important pieces of information for you in this communication. - An update on the Setting the Table Stewardship campaign
- Information on how to nominate candidates for the FUS Board of Trustees and the Nominating Committee
- A list of current members who are eligible to vote on April 14 during candidating week and the May 15 annual meeting. Be sure to check your name against this list, and if you believe our records do not accurately reflect your current status as a member, follow the instructions below by April 3.
Thank you for your kind attention to these important FUS matters.

Setting the Table
Goal: $50,000 in increased or new pledges
Hello fellow FUS members:
We are now in the middle of our stewardship campaign which ends on March 31, and the responses have slowed way down. For those that have turned in your pledge forms, and in particular, those that were willing and able to increase their pledges, thank you so much! For the rest of you, there is short time and much of the table left to set. There are many of you who have not turned in a pledge form yet, so it is very difficult for us to track pledge amounts, especially increases. To date, we have 55 pledges turned in (25 % of pledging households), with $ 10,600 in increases and new pledges. Remember our goal is 100% participation and $50,000 in increased or new pledges.
Why are we asking everyone to turn in a pledge form today? And why are we asking everyone to consider an increase? It's part of our commitment to a new settled minister. Think of the confidence we can instill in him if we can tell him that FUS is on solid footing because every pledging household has made their commitment known! How energizing for him if he gets to focus on Sunday mornings and programs and getting to know us versus worrying about our financial position! And you have the power to make it happen.
We are setting the table for a special guest. Please help us set the best table possible.
Humbly, your Stewardship Committee: Beth Gohdes, Scott Eller, Chris Bubser, Katrina Lassegard, Allan Callander, and Roger Clemence with fabulous staff support from Will Hegeman.

Nominations Process
Interested in serving on the Board of Trustees or the Nominating Committee for FUS? This will be a very exciting time to be in leadership at FUS, with a new settled minister hopefully arriving this summer. For the next year, we will have one opening on the Board of Trustees, and at least one on the Nominating Committee.
Who is eligible to serve? To qualify for election to any of these positions, a congregant must be a member in good standing of the church, which includes making and paying a yearly pledge of financial support.
If you are interested, what can you do next? You have two choices:
- Talk to a member of the nominating committee about your interest no later than Sunday April 7, 2013. Nominating Committee members are: Beth Gohdes, Scott Eller, Sue Tincher, Marcia Carlson and Sheila Callander.
- Use the bylaws process for voting members. According to our bylaws, the following outlines a process for becoming a candidate:
- Put the nomination in writing
- Have it signed by 3 or more voting members of the congregation, and by the candidate
- Deliver the written nomination to the Board of Trustees Secretary (Polly Peterson) by Wednesday April 10, 2013 (at least 35 days before the annual meeting).

Verify Your Membership
Greetings from the Membership Coordinator of the First Unitarian Society!
In anticipation of the upcoming congregational vote on April 14, 2013, we ask your help in verifying our current membership records. We are including in this email what we believe to be an accurate assessment of those we have identified as active voting members. If you believe our records do not accurately reflect your current status as a member, we would appreciate hearing from you so we may clarify and correct, no later than Wednesday April 3, 2013.
Please contact our Membership Coordinator, Wendy Reynolds, at 612-377-6608, Ext. 110.
A voting member is one who has:
Joined and made a recorded contribution to FUS during the 12 months prior to the congregational vote on April 14, 2013.
Please speak to the Minister if a waiver request for financial hardship is needed.
Thank you for your contributions of time, talent and treasure to the First Unitarian Society. And, if you have been considering membership but have not yet joined, this is an optimal time to show your affirmation of all that FUS brings to you and to the wider community.
With appreciation,
Wendy Reynolds, Membership Coordinator

FUS Orientation Series
Sundays, April 21 and April 28 These sessions provide newcomers an opportunity to learn more about our Society, our religion, our history, our philosophy and purpose, and how we function. It's a chance to meet and hear from staff and long-time members and leaders in the congregation. You'll also meet others who are engaged in the same search you are. And you don't have to be a newcomer! Everyone is welcome! Childcare can be arranged with at least one week's notice. There will be a sign up sheet available at the Welcome table in the Lower Assembly Hall during Sunday social hour. If you would like to attend and/or you have questions regarding this series or about membership, please feel free to contact Membership Director Wendy Reynolds at 612-377-6608, ext. 110.
|
 Candidating Week
The FUS ministerial candidate will spend the week of April 7-14 at FUS, preaching sermons on both Sundays and spending time with FUS committees and groups getting to know people, answering questions and listening to concerns. An FUS congregational meeting will take place on Sunday April 14 following the service to vote on calling the candidate.
|
Save the Date
The Annual Meeting is coming, so save the date of May 15. The meeting will start with a dinner at 5:30 followed by a business meeting at 6:30. The board will be giving an update on our goals and there will be a vote to approve the next budget. If there are resolutions for consideration please contact either Bruce Nelson or Mike Illes so they can be included in the annual meeting packet to members.
