"The Seven Principles: Precepts or Platitudes" with Steven Protzman, Summer Minister preaching. Are the seven principles lofty and lovely but irrelevant poetry? Or are they meaningful guideposts by which we can measure and shape our spiritual growth as individuals, as congregations and as an Association? In this first Summer Assembly we will explore the principles within the larger context of Unitarian Universalism and reflect about whether they are truly spiritual precepts to live by or mere platitudes to be framed and hung on the wall.

Summer Programming for Kids
The summer childcare program is an informal time for children in this congregation. They gather for games, art activities and use our wonderful game room for playing ping-pong and air hockey. Our senior high students are paid to monitor and lead the group. Babies will be given one-on-one attention and the preschool room will be available for younger children's play. Older youth, fourth/fifth grades and up, are welcomed into the service for the summer. Childcare is available from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m.

 Show Your UU Pride!
UUA General Assembly, June 23-27
Participate in GA in a way that best matches your life. Here are some options to consider.
1. Attend GA--in Person or Virtually!
Read Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons' words here about why you'll want to attend GA. Click here to apply to serve as a voting delegate representing FUS. Click here to see the schedule of events, and ways you can participate in GA from the comfort of your own home/computer/phone!
2. Host an Attendee!
Meet UUs from around the country and help support local social justice at the same time! Be a host home for GA! Use your spare bedroom to host a GA attendee, and their free-will donation (suggested at $50/night) goes to the Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance to support its work. Transportation will be the responsibility of your guest, though if you're attending, carpooling is recommended. Homes near transit are especially encouraged to volunteer! For more details on the program, and to offer space, contact Catie.
3. Staff the Metro UU Booth at Pride!
The FUS Membership Committee is very excited to be sponsoring a booth at the Pride Festival this year, on June 26 and 27 at Loring Park. We are currently looking for volunteers to staff the booth in two-hour increments. Please stop by the Ask Me table in the Lower Assembly Hall to sign up for a shift.
4. Help with the Float/March in the Parade!
Keep an eye out for more information about opportunities for marching in the Pride Festival parade and helping with the Twin Cities UU float!
In addition to the five days of UU General Assembly events, our congregation will also be hosting a special one-day gathering of UU Humanists from around the country. There will be speakers and workshops and three meals here on Mount Curve on Saturday, June 26. Registration will be $100 for the day, and you can register now by mail to David Shaffer at HUUmanists Association, PO Box 185202, Hamden CT 06518. Online registration should be available soon at www.huumanists.org. Or, if you would like to participate in this one day event with free or reduced registration, Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons needs several volunteers to help her set up and to serve the meals. Let Kendyl know if this is a possibility for you.

Mentors Needed
Check out a great program, Boys to Men, for various opportunities to mentor boys.
"The Boys to Men Mentoring Network of Minnesota is a nonprofit organization created by men for the specific purpose of mentoring boys 13-17 years of age through their passage into manhood. We believe it is the responsibility of the men in the community to guide our boys through play and work into self actualization, leadership, community service and emotional literacy. In doing so, these boys will get more essential tools to get through the epic transition into adult life."
