Upcoming Assemblies

Assemblies are held on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the Upper Assembly Hall.

April 13
"An Abiding Place"
Speaker: Steven Protzman, Ministerial Intern
This service will look at the fluid spectrum of human gender identity, offer some insight into the struggles of transgender individuals, and examine the Unitarian Universalist call to work toward a world where all people are affirmed for who they are.

April 20
"Remembering Toward Freedom"
Speaker: Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons
As our Jewish neighbors celebrate the spring festival of the Passover, we contemplate the ongoing impact that stories of liberation have on both our personal lives and our society. We will also celebrate the dedication of children and families, and a special collection will be received in honor of Earth Day.

April 27
"Manifesting Humanism; Heritage Sunday"
Speaker: Rev. Dr. Kendyl Gibbons
2008 marks the 75th anniversary of the publication of the first Humanist Manifesto, in 1933. This document, signed by prominent academics and liberal clergy, arguably marks the beginning of the modern humanist movement. What does the history of that original document tell us about this movement, and does it continue to speak to our situation across the decades? This Assembly will be followed by a sermon discussion.

Camp Out
is a feature documentary film that follows ten Midwestern teenagers as they attend the first overnight Bible Camp for gay Christian youths. For these six boys and four girls, it's just as hard to come out as Christian as it is to come out as gay. They're caught in the battle between religion, politics and sexuality that's raging in the United States today. These kids are outsiders - their straight classmates ostracize them and their churches reject them. But like all teens, they yearn to feel at home, somewhere. Struggling to find a way to be true to both their spirituality and their sexual identity, these teens come to camp hoping to finally find a place of acceptance. A question and answer session will follow the movie. Concessions will be available. Free will donations will be accepted. This event is sponsored by the FUS Social Action Committee.
