9:30 a.m. FORUM: Balancing Our Decisions In the Best Interests of the Earth    

Leaders: Madalyn Cioci, Demi Miller and Diggitt McLaughlin, Intern Minister. We will begin a discussion of living more sustainably, both at FUS and in the rest of our lives.       


10:30 a.m. Music Sunday: Remembrance, Reverence, Reflection

Please join our minister and the FUS chorus as we mark the 150th anniversary of the Dakota conflict. The pieces will express the wisdom of the Native American people, and special guest musician Laura Preves will play the wood flute in solemn remembrance of this time in our history. There will be no announcements during the assembly this Sunday.

Monthly Poetry Group Tonight

Friday, October 26
Dietrich Room, 7:00-9:00pm

This month we are focusing on the child in us all through a look at children's poetry. Bring a family favorite to share if you have one--or a poem from your youth--along with a few copies to help foster discussion. Light refreshments will be served. Facilitated by Audrey Kingstrom.

Carved Pumpkin Sale
Sunday, October 28
Greet the trick-or-treaters who come to your door with a one-of-a-kind carved jack-O-lantern this Halloween. The Senior High Youth Group will be carving pumpkins for sale to raise funds for their trip to Boston.

 


Blood Drive 

October 28, 8:30am-12:30pm

The Memorial Blood Centers' Bloodmobile will be at FUS and you could help our community by blood drive donating! To make an appointment, contact Curt Dederich - OR - to make an appointment online, click here and enter 9874 as the sponsor code. Then click on the event date to register. Help Folks Stay Warm    chalice social justice

Help Dignity Center clients stay warm this winter by donating winter jackets and gloves for adults! The greatest needs are extra-large men's jackets and ski gloves. Deposit donations in the large box in the main entrance at FUS between October 28 and November 19.    

Beyond Categorical Thinking
On Sunday, November 4, FUS will host a Beyond Categorical Thinking Day. The program promotes inclusive thinking during the ministerial search. Representatives from the UUA will lead the Assembly and a three-hour workshop immediately following. Lunch and childcare will be provided. Please join the Search Committee and the Trustees at this important search event: Sign-up on the Search Committee bulletin board in the Lower Assembly Hall, notify the FUS office, or email the Search Committee. Wednesday, November 7, 6:00pm Eat 'n Meet dinner, 7:00-8:30pm free program. 

 

At this final session of the series, a panel will discuss "The Joy of Cooking and Eating Ethically." We'll consider some practical and realistic ways to make the changes we desire. In addition to our previous presenters, we will be joined by FUS member Jenny Warner, Board president of the Wirth Cooperative Grocery.  She will give us an update on this soon to be opened new co-op on the northside and how interested volunteers can get involved.

Alliance Meets November 7
Our program on Wednesday, November 7 at 11:00am is The Foundation of FUS: Stories of the People Who Make it Work by Ray Schreurs and Lois Edwards. See the Alliance web page for more information.

 

Miss Representation  Miss Representation
The Women's Awareness Group (WAG) will meet Monday, November 12 to show the film, Miss Representation, an award winning film about the images of women and girls in the current media. Meeting starts at 6:30pm sharp, with the film beginning at 7:00pm in the Dietrich Room at FUS.

RE Update
Wonderful activities have been going on in our Religious Explorers Program: The high school has been doing social service projects, the Coming of Age has been rock climbing and doing character issues, and all classes are full and lively. Please see the RE Update page for more information and don't forget the Nursery /Preschool breakfast in the Chalice Room on October 28 at 9:30am for families.

In Memory of Paul Kurtz
Paul Kurtz, philosopher, prolific author, publisher, and founder of several secular humanist institutions as well as the for-profit independent press Prometheus Books, died on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at his home in Amherst, New York. He was 86. Click here to read his obituary.

Help a Senior Citizen

Get in shape and help your neighbor! Develop strong muscles by shoveling the snow off a grateful senior citizen's walkways and driveway. Work with a partner and you can take turns shoveling. Family teams and small groups welcome; youth must be age 7 or older and supervised by an adult. One time opportunities are also available. Contact Jeanne at NIP Seniors Program 612-746-8549.
