President and Mrs. Obama invited Kurt to perform for the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, the honored guests at the first official White House state dinner, held November 24, 2009 in a large tent on the South Lawn. Over 300 people were in attendance. Kurt performed "Nature Boy," accompanied by Laurence Hobgood on piano and the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marvin Hamlisch.
