The Laurence
Hobgood Trio Kurt Elling Quartet with special guest,
guitarist John McLean Tanglewood Jazz Festival Saturday, Sept. 4, at 8:00 pm
The LH Trio -- Laurence Hobgood, Harish Raghavan, and Ulysses Owens -- opens the show, and after intermission, Kurt and John will join
them for the second set. For information & seating inside Ozawa Hall or out on the lawn, click here. The Trio will play Hobgood originals and his arrangements of jazz standards. Laurence and Kurt have two very special sets in store for this magical evening. Dawn Singh, Manager of the Tanglewood Jazz Festival, comments: Kurt Elling, Laurence Hobgood and Seiji Ozawa Hall were made for each other. We know how much Kurt and Laurence appreciate a world-class performance environment such as Tanglewood and I feel it's the alignment of the best musicians in the jazz world and the best venue in the country. Kurt has become a favorite at Tanglewood since we presented him in 2008 and I wish he and Laurence could be here every year. They always bring something fresh and innovative--and the luxurious sound of their music floating over the rolling hills at Tanglewood is a moment no true jazz fan will ever forget.

Abbey Lincoln August 6, 1930 - August 14, 2010
Kurt remarked, I was very sad to learn of Abbey Lincoln's passing. She was a guiding light for individualist jazz singers and for anyone who loves human/artistic courage. She sang truth to power. She had a stunning way with (writing and singing) a lyric, and her sound was absolutely signature. May God bless & keep Abbey Lincoln. Abbey Lincoln: The Music is the Magic is filmmaker Carol Friedman's documentary that she began 19 years ago. It's now in post-production, and she hopes for a release sometime this fall.
