Garners Two GRAMMY Nominations!

52nd Grammy Awards

On December 2nd when the 52nd annual GRAMMY nominations were announced in Los Angeles, Kurt Elling was honored with his eighth GRAMMY nomination for "Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane and Hartman" in the Best Jazz Vocal category.

Laurence Hobgood's arrangement of the title tune also received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying a Vocalist.  This is Laurence's second nomination for arranging.

Every one of Kurt's albums has been GRAMMY nominated.  Eight albums, ten nominations in all -- that's excellence!

The gala GRAMMY Awards ceremony will be held January 31, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast on CBS.

Congratulations to Kurt and Laurence for these well-deserved nominations, this captivating album, and their dedication to the fine art of jazz.  Bravo, gentlemen!

GQ's Kurt Elling Live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue links to Kurt's earlier GQ interview where he told stories about President Obama and described the art of vocalese.

GQ says, "He also debuted an excerpt of a new song with the working title "Samurai Hee-Haw" that, well... We think is irresistible as hell."  Listen to the preview here.

Kurt & Laurence go into the studio in January with some very special guests to record the next album.  Watch for news about a summer 2010 release (and fans who've been at recent shows really hope it includes "Samurai Hee-Haw").
