Branford Marsalis Quartet with Kurt Elling
In an unprecedented collaboration, the Branford Marsalis Quartet welcomes Kurt Elling, a rare addition to the rock-solid lineup of Joey Calderazzo, Eric Revis, and Justin Faulkner. With the Quartet's almost telepathic interplay and adventurous spirit, Kurt's artistry takes on a whole new dimension. In December after a four-night engagement at Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro in New Orleans, Kurt & the Branford Marsalis Quartet went into the studio to record an album together. It's scheduled for early summer release, and then they'll be out on tour. Stay tuned for summer festival tour dates & news about this exciting, much-anticipated recording!

Monty Alexander & Friends - Sinatra at 100
With Special Guest Kurt Elling
Jazz at Lincoln Center
February 12-13, 2016
In 1961 jazz great Monty Alexander was just 17 when Frank Sinatra first heard him play and recommended that he be hired as the house pianist at Jilly's Saloon in New York, a favorite Sinatra hangout. Over the years Monty played often with and for "Mr. S" as he called him.
Now more than 50 years later, Monty Alexander & Friends invited Kurt to join them for two incredible performances of Sinatra at 100 at Jazz at Lincoln Center on Valentine's weekend. See more...

View From My Window Photo Contest Grand Prize Winner: Tim Smith
After last summer's release of Passion World, Kurt held a photo contest inspired by his View From My Hotel Window gallery on his website.
Kurt asked fans to submit photos of the views outside the windows of places special to them. The grand prize was a single, custom-made, autographed copy of Passion World with the winner's photo on the cover. Kurt selected Tim Smith's photo as the grand prize winner. Tim is a long-time fan who has his own design firm in Cincinnati, OH. Tim's photo was shot from the back deck of his home overlooking the Ohio River he loves. Tim said that having Kurt select his photo of the place that's so special to him was particularly meaningful because Kurt's music has provided comfort to him during difficult times.
Said Kurt, "Tim's is a beautiful image - so many of the entries were, and it was a difficult choice. But Tim's has a dreamy quality that was very evocative - of adventures and literature and travel and something more than mere romance. Tim's photo is a painting."
For more about this story with its touching twist and a picture of Kurt presenting the prize to Tim and his wife, Paula Toti, please click here. Many congratulations, Tim!

Short Takes
Recently Kurt performed with Ann Hampton Callaway and cabaret legend Marilyn Maye in a show recorded at Birdland for Callaway's new radio series, This Is Cabaret, coming to public radio this summer. Check out Kevin Alvey's great photos from that evening!

Your Moment of Elling . . .
I always want to surprise the audience and give them something they haven't heard on any of my records. I really want to reward them and give them a reason or two for coming out. I want people to come out of my shows overwhelmed - emotionally, intellectually - because I want to keep doing this.
