DON'T RUN OUT OF GAS!

If your grill runs out of gas during your cook-out, be prepared. The Good Housekeeping Research Institute tells us that with the rising propane prices, some suppliers have dropped the amount of propane per tank to 15 pounds instead of 17, keeping the price per tank the same!

SAVINGS TIP OF THE WEEK!

"A PENNY SAVED IS A PENNY EARNED."

ben franklin1 Motivational Benjamin Franklin Quote on Happiness

This tip comes from Benjamin Franklin and it's just as true today as it was in the 18th century. Pay yourself the "pennies" saved from these minor expenses (Actually put them in a jar.) and the annual savings will go a long way toward paying your Christmas bills!

(Figures are approximate and are based on averages.)

Pack a lunch ($3.00)instead of lunch out ($6.50) for 20 days each month = $840

If you smoke a pack ($5) a day, quit. (You know you should anyway!) =$1,825

No "latte" ($2.00) a day for 20 days = $480

Local artist, Barbara Sharp's Born in the USA butterfly, fetched a whopping  $32,000 for St. Louis Barnes-Jewish Hospital's pediatric hospice and palliative care Wings. Her 4 foot x 5 foot butterfly displayed elements of the American heritage that represents the pride and graciousness of freedom. It was adorned with paintings, glass beads and mosaic pieces creating the Statue of Liberty, American flag, an eagle, the four presidents of Mt. Rushmore with skyrocketing fireworks, seals of the Armed Services and more. It was purchased by a private buyer who has donated it to the USO at the Lambert Airport in St. Louis. FLASH is so proud of Barbara and congratulates her on a job well done! What a fitting piece of art for our July 4th issue! AMAZING!

ANSWER TO TRIVIA QUESTION

The two were the 2nd President, John Adams, and the 3rd President, Thomas Jefferson. They both died on July 4, 1826. Adams was almost 91 and Jefferson was 83, -  way beyond the life expectancy of that era. The political and ideological divide between  Adams and Jefferson is one that, as a country, we're still struggling to overcome. For those of you that may have forgotten your American history, Adams was a Federalist and  believed that the country needed a strong, central government because he was convinced that the republican values that precipitated the revolution would likely lead to a dissolution of the newly formed, and highly volatile, United States. Jefferson, on the other hand, firmly believed in self-government and viewed a strong, centralized government as tantamount to tyranny.
(Sounds like they could be running in 2012, doesn't it?)
