DANIELLE VOGEL PP

                                   IS A POSITIVE PERSON

.

It is our pleasure to spotlight Danielle Vogel as this week's Positive Person and we thank JoAnn Binford for the nomination. In JoAnn's own words, "Danielle is so positive about everything and always has a smile on her face. She has a great high level of positive energy that is contagious. She is a great teacher, mentor, and inspiration to our students at VBHS." Danielle has lived in Vero for over 10 years and teaches English at Vero Beach High School where she serves as the English department chair. She also sits on the School Advisory Committee and has received the nomination to serve as its chair for the 2011-2012 school year. She was recognized as Vero Beach High School Teacher of the Year in 2009 and received the 'District's Top 5 Teacher of the Year' award in 2009 as well. Danielle has the energy to make things happen and she has graced Vero with her talents. She served as the President of the Junior League for two years in 2007 and 2008. During that time the membership was strengthened and new community partnerships were formed. The Tour of Homes was reorganized and many other events and projects were organized that directly benefited this community. Since relinquishing her presidency she has become active with the Treasure Coast Gator Club which awards over $20,000 in local scholarships each year to high school seniors who will be joining the Gator Nation. Danielle earned her Masters degree in Educational Technology from the University of Florida and is currently pursuing her Doctorate from UF. She enjoys giving back to the University through her involvement in the local Gator Club and receives great pleasure in knowing her efforts are helping students here locally. Danielle seems to squeeze every minute from her days and hours from her week. She has recently taken up training with her sister-in-law for a half a marathon they hope to run in October. They ran their first 10K in February and crossed the finish line together. Danielle watched her mother for many years as she volunteered at her elementary school. It instilled in her the importance of giving back to the community. Danielle has been inspired by her mother's advice, wisdom, and knowledge and it has allowed her to grow as a leader. Danielle truly enjoys her volunteer involvement. She has met and gets to 'hang out' with some of the most interesting people while making a difference at the same time. Her advice is to find out what you have a passion for and pursue it. 'Put a smile on your face and find the silver lining in what might seem to be a negative situation. It takes so much more energy to be negative. Your smile and optimism might just make some one's day." We know that has proved to be true with you Danielle!  Thank you for all that you do!

water walk
.
WATER WALKING IS EASY EXERCISE!

As summer approaches, you may find it a little warm to walk outside, so here's the solution. It's also ideal for seniors or people with arthritis, knee or other joint problems.  A new form of exercise called "water walking" is capturing people's attention. The water's resistance makes movements more difficult and thus can effectively build strength and flexibility. The deeper the water you walk in, the more calories you will burn!

Saint Edward's

Celebrates Completion of Debt Relief Effort

Today at 10:30 a.m. Saint Edward's School will dedicate a plaque honoring the members of the local community who have collectively donated more than $10 million toward relieving the School of its long-term debt. The plaque recognizes donors who have given directly to School for debt relief and donors who have contributed to the Pirate Fund. Many friends of the School had been donating gifts both large and small to assist with paying off the School's debt obligations and a group of Board members, friends and parents initiated the Pirate Fund in 2009. The donors to the Pirate Fund have each committed gifts equal to or greater than $50,000. The Fund is operated out of the Indian River Community Foundation for the benefit of Saint Edward's School. "We are immensely grateful for the generosity of these donors," said Head of School Mike Mersky. As a result Saint Edward's will continue to serve this community now and for many years to come. The following Gifts of $1 million or more were given by Mary Ann and Bill Becker, Patricia and Richard Burgoon, Kathy and Ron Edwards, Liza and Matt Gaston, and Lorne and Heidi Waxlax.

champion home health care

INCLUDE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE CARE GIVING

Don't discount a child's way of giving care and dealing with care giving issues. "Many times, children understand more than you think and sometimes have simpler ways of doing things. Here are several benefits to letting your child pitch in.

1)  When kids feel a part of care giving, they tend to handle this

     huge life change better.

2)  Children are actually capable of helping with some care giving

responsibilities: younger kids, for example, can read to your

loved one, while an older teen may take their loved one to a

movie or out for a walk.

3)  Children will feel better and gain a sense of pride knowing they

     are contributing and helping.

4)  It allows your child to focus on something positive during a time

when the positive is less evident.

5)  This helps to holds the family together as everyone makes a        contribution during this difficult time.

It is always a good idea to talk honestly about the whole situation. Children may be scared or apprehensive when they see your loved one weather physical, emotional or mental difficulties. Honest, open conversations and explanations on level kids can understand and register may be the best way to diffuse their uneasiness.

 Walter Breuning

THE SECRET FOR A LONG  LIFE?

Walter Breuning, certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest living man died at the age of 114 in Great Falls, Montana. He attributed his long life to the fact that he only ate two meals a day, saying that's all that we need. He also got check-ups twice a year, but never took any medication other than aspirin. And he was always  one to remind people "If you keep your mind busy and keep your body busy, you're going to be around a long time!"
