IS A POSITIVE PERSON

Suzanne is wife to Dr. Mickey Conway, mother to three daughters: Sarah Kate, Caroline and Tillery, partner in the dental practice Drs. Conway and Bucaj and a resident of Vero Beach for the past thirty years. This is one busy lady that has a heart of gold. Suzanne always finds time to give back to her community and has been active with American Cancer Society, Junior League, Riverside Children's Theatre, Saint Edward's Trunk Show, and has recently become active with the Haiti Clinic.  Her heart went out to Haiti and she incorporated Haitian Art into this year's Saint Edward's Trunk Show which proved to be a popular addition. When Suzanne was in dental school she would go with her father, an oral surgeon, to Honduras to provide care to those in need. Through his words and deeds he showed his daughter that efforts like this was worth more than the hundreds of thousands of dollars of US aide to provide care to the regular people in these areas and to show them first hand that Americans care. She is following in her father's footsteps by becoming involved in Haiti Clinic. She provides dental care to some of the poorest people in the Western Hemisphere. Haiti Clinic is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving health care in the impoverished nation of Haiti. Suzanne was a member of a team of health care providers who flew down to Haiti on a Friday and saw 350 patients during their all day clinics on Saturday and Sunday.  These physicians cover the expenses themselves and are required to work in a make-shift medical environment, often with no running water and none of the technology and/or equipment that they rely on back here in the states. This You Tube video features Suzanne and depicts the conditions that await the physicians upon their arrival.

Suzanne enjoys reading in her spare time and started a book club with others 15 years ago.  She was brought up in a family with parents who were active in their Winter Park community and set an example for Suzanne that everyone has an obligation to help others. That is what Suzanne has done and she has made life-long friends in the process. She encourages others to look beyond themselves and consider all the possibilities....be creative!  Suzanne, FLASH thanks you for your commitment to others and we admire you greatly and are pleased to feature you as the 'Positive Person' you are!  THANK YOU!

Lid RacksA HOME FOR POT LIDS!

Look at this neat idea from Martha Stewart! Pot lids are a necessary nuisance, so give them a home of their own by installing metal towel bars inside your pantry or cabinet. Use simple ones that stand out about 2 inches. Mount them only  to solid wood doors. To hang a lid, slide it behind the bar so the knob or handle catches and holds the lid in place. Oh the creativeness of Martha!

GULFSTREAM PARK VILLAGE

SPEND A DAY AT THE RACES!

Recently some FLASH staff members spent the day at the  remodeled Gulfstream Park and Village in Hallandale. Along with the racetrack, there is now a year-round casino and  a "village" of shops and restaurants. A favorite restaurant is the Ten Palms located in the main building. The long, glass enclosed room runs the length of the building and overlooks the track. You can watch the races in air-conditioned comfort from there or step outside for a close-up view.  Each table has a computer (for viewing odds, etc.)  and the luncheon menu offers sandwiches and other specialties with a full bar available. It's a little over a 2 hour drive from Vero.  A fun day trip,  but with so much to do, you might want to spend the weekend at a nearby hotel. It's well worth the drive! Why Do Prescription Drugs Have To Cost So Much? THEY DON'T!

From: Anne Zaring:

It sounds too good to be true, but it's not. I work with RX Hope Savings Card. It's a FREE prescription savings card that can be used at all pharmacies to buy prescription drugs at great discounts. You can save between 35 to 80% of  retail prices when you use the card. All you do is take the card to your pharmacy and have them enter it into their system. Don't forget to remind them each time you refill that you are a RX Hope member. That's it! The card can be used by anyone in the U.S. regardless of health, age, and citizenship. It can be passed around to friends and family. The card is most useful to the non- insured and under- insured, but it works for the insured also for things your insurance doesn't cover. Savings on generic drugs are the best. There is no application, no cost, no limit, no drama. More info available by clicking Here. How do you get a card? Just go to the  website and print one out. rx hope card 1c

SAVINGS TIP OF THE WEEK!

TAX CREDIT VS. TAX DEDUCTION

As you prepare your tax information for 2010, it's important to know the difference in the above terms and to take advantage of any savings that might be available to you. A tax deduction (such as a donation to a charity) is subtracted from your gross income which reduces your net income on which the tax you owe is computed. A tax credit is deducted directly from the actual tax owed.  Taxpayers who made some energy efficient improvements to their home or purchased energy-efficient products last year may qualify for a tax credit this year. To read more from the IRS about six energy-related tax credits the government allows CLICK HERE
