REMEBERING ON MEMORIAL DAY
The first official Memorial Day on May 30, 1868 was to honor the dead soldiers of both the Union and Confederate armies. It later included the veterans of all U.S. wars. It's also a tradition to fly the flag at half mast until noon. While we all enjoy our long weekend, let's do take a few moments to remember those that we have lost and to whom we owe so very much! Check out the post in this issue for a service at the Navy SEAL museum on the 30th. A wonderful event for the entire family. |

This week I had the privilege of speaking with Cindy Roden the founder of Handshakes and Dinner Plates, The Etiquette School. It was a walk down memory lane that took me back to a time when I was the child sitting in etiquette-dance class learning which fork to use, the importance of good posture, that ladies cross their legs at their ankles and the different steps to the many ballroom dances that are so beautifully performed these days on Dancing with the Stars. I loved the classes and learned things that young age that has served me well throughout life. I believe that every child benefits from these types of programs and there is no doubt in my mind that our FLASHERS will love Cindy. She has an interactive program that has been proven quite fun and successful with children from ages 3 and up. She will be offering classes this summer and will be taking it into various schools in the fall. I think anyone with children would benefit from speaking with Cindy and checking out her website. I think you will love it! |

May 27th - May 28th
CeeJay Carl "Cee - Jay" Jones is one of the hottest, freshest comics to hit the comedy scene. Cee - Jay is wild and totally outrageous, with a style of comedy that is all his own. His stage presence, quick wit, high energy and rapid fire delivery keeps his audiences laughing non-stop from the moment he hits the stage. In Cee - Jay's world nothing is off limits. He gives you his perspective on how he sees the world, and when he does.....YOUR WORLD WILL NEVER BE THE SAME! He's appeared on BET's Comic View and Showtime's At the Apollo. Don't miss your chance to see one of comedy's new rising stars! Forrest Shaw Born in Miami and raised as an only child by a single hippie mother, Forrest Shaw got into stand-up comedy after a decade of life as a marine biologist. Saving manatees and counting seagrass by day, at night, Forrest dedicated himself to the open mic circuit, quickly working his way into regular work with the South Florida Improvs. Forrest delivers witty and clever anecdotes of his unorthodox life with a wry smile. He shares his own faults and failures with the audience in hopes that they too can find the lighter side of those things in life, which sometimes seem too much to bear. He also isn't fond of stupid people; but who is? "Life is complicated and it shouldn't be. We have created all of this stress and aggravation so the healthiest thing to do is make fun of ourselves and laugh about it." |

HEALTH TIP
HERE'S AN EXERCISE YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE!
When you were a kid, remember the fun you had with a HulaHoop? Well, it's time to get it out again! According to the journal DIABETES, 15 minutes of this moderate intensity exercise not only burns calories, but can turn off your cravings and thoughts of food for hours! The science behind it is that it makes your hypothalamus (a gland in the center of your brain) more responsive to the appetite suppressing hormone leptin, as well as the hunger-regulating hormone insulin! Have fun! |

CREATE YOUR OWN CAR BINGO
"Are we there yet?" SOLUTION
Summer travel time is coming and we know how difficult it is to keep kids entertained on long road trips. Here's a tip from Martha Stewart to make CAR BINGO cards with travel images. It also familiarizes them with traffic signs. (We hate to remind you, but today it is car bingo and tomorrow is drivers ed class.) If the kids are computer savvy, let them print and laminate the cards themselves before the trip. Play the game just like regular Bingo. When a particular image is spotted, everyone having it marks their card. If you use an erasable marker, you can play again and again. For the link to print, Click Here

SAVINGS TIP OF THE WEEK! DEBT FORGIVENESS MAY INCREASE TAXES Whether you are the "debtor" or the "forgiver", this is good to know. The IRS considers the forgiveness of a debt of $600 or more to be taxable income for the debtor even though he did not receive the money. For instance, if someone negotiates with a credit card company to reduce the balance owed, the company is obligated to report this on a 1099-C form and the debtor must pay a tax on the amount forgiven. There are some exceptions (certain mortgage loans, for example) so check with a tax acountant. (Don't you just love the IRS?!!)
