NOREEN RAMSEY

IS A POSITIVE PERSON
Noreen Ramsey is the daughter to Tara and Rich Ramsey, sister to Molly and Maura and recent graduate from Saint Edward's Episcopal School. Noreen was recently awarded the Congressional Medal of Merit by U.S. Congressman Bill Posey with whom she has interned in Washington DC on three different occasions. Noreen is one of those young ladies who seem to do it all. She has been extremely involved in the community through school and her youth group at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She has volunteered as a coach with the IR Soccer Association, worked on homes helping those in need, organized and volunteered at the Global Awareness Sports Palooza which benefited various charities, helped the elderly, served meals to those less fortunate, helped clean up our beaches and much more! Through the years she has evolved into a leader and has served as Captain of her JV Soccer team and her Varsity Cheerleading squad. She also served on Student Council this year as the Class Vice President and President of the GreEnvironment Club. She is respected by both her peers and adults and it is clear to see why she received the Saint Edward's Special Service Award for her concern for others and dedication to excellence this past year. She also received the Charles Clark Character Award her Sophomore year for consistently demonstrating excellent character and for having a significant, willing and positive influence on her peers. Noreen will be attending Villanova University in the fall. Her experience in DC has influenced the direction she will pursue in college. She has developed a love for politics and can't wait to get back to 'The Hill.' She greatly admires her parents and says. "They set a high bar for me to reach, both morally and scholastically. They have both been such great examples for me. They taught me that to get you have to give. They also instilled the belief that it is my obligation to give back to my community." Noreen, from the example you have set thus far, it is clear to see that you have mastered your parents' directive. We congratulate you on your achievements and wish you the best of luck as you set out on the next exciting chapter of your life!

You can type almost any food into the search bar and learn how long it will keep and where to keep it. You might want to mark this site as one of your 'favorites' for handy reference. WHAT A WIN!
The first U.S. Open was played in 1895 and the purse totaled $355. The winner, Horace Rollins, received $150. When 22 year old Rory McIlroy won the U.S. Open last Sunday, he not only broke several records, (including the lowest score ever for the four rounds) he took home $1,440,000! The total purse that was divided among all the players was a whopping $7,500,000! At 22, Rory is the second youngest golfer to win the Open. Bobby Jones still holds the title of youngest when he won in 1923 at 21. (Some intersting trivia about Jones is in a post below). NOW THAT'S SPORTSMANSHIP!
An amazing bit of golf trivia and a lesson for your kids!
After winning the 1923 U.S. Open, Bobby Jones lost the the title in 1925 to Willie Macfarlane because he called a penalty on himself. Here's the story. During the match, Bobby's ball ended up in the rough just off the fairway and as he was setting up to play his shot, his iron caused a slight movement of the ball which is not allowed. He immediately turned to the marshals and called a two-stroke penalty on himself. The marshals discussed it among themselves and even questioned some of the gallery whether they had seen Jones' ball move. Apparently, no one had seen it, so the decision was left to Jones. He still called for the penalty which caused him to lose the Open by one stroke! When he was praised for his gesture, Jones replied, "You may as well praise a man for not robbing a bank." Is it any wonder that the USGA's sportsmanship award is named the BOB JONES AWARD in his honor?

HEALTH TIP
WHAT IS 'MODERATE DRINKING'?

The Dietary Guidelines of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services define moderate drinking as no more than one drink a day for women and no more than two drinks a day for men. Sorry, gals, but even in small amounts, alcohol affects women differently than men. So, what is meant by 'a drink' ?
A standard drink is considered to be:
One 12-ounce bottle of beer or wine cooler
One 5-ounce glass of wine
1.5 ounces of 80-proof distilled spirits

 SAVINGS TIP OF THE WEEK!
IRS RULES FOR CLAIMING A "DEPENDENT CHILD"
We know you just finished paying your 2010 taxes, but if you have older children, it may be wise to plan ahead. Generally, to claim a child as a dependent, the child must reside with you for more than half the year (6 mos. and one day) unless away at college. He or she must be under the age of 19 at the end of the year, or under the age of 24 if a full-time student for at least 5 months of the year, and not provide more than half of his or her own support. These rules do not apply if the child is permanently disabled. Review these rules with your tax accountant to see how they apply to your particular situation. There are different rules for a "qualifying relative".

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
S'MORES IN THE MICROWAVE
A fun and easy summer treat the kids can make! We don't know who first dreamed up s'mores, but we first had them at a girl scout camp-out many, many years ago! This version doesn't require an open fire and your kids will love making them.
Ingredients for each "s'more":
2 graham cracker squares
3 rectangles of Hershey chocolate bar
1 large marshmallow
Directions:
On paper towel place 1 cracker square.
Top with chocolate and marshmallow.
Micro on high 15 seconds or until marshmallow puffs.
Remove from oven and cover with other cracker.
NOTE: There are about 145 calories in each sandwich. Not bad for
a dessert when compared to a piece of key lime pie at 330!
