School's First Puerto Rico Executive MBA Class Finishes as Next Class Begins

Members of the first class of the School's Executive MBA program in Puerto Rico completed their program this month as the School welcomed its second class into the program. The graduating class, which includes 25 business professionals representing some of Puerto Rico's leading firms, celebrated the accomplishment at a reception Oct. 29 in San Juan. Many of the degree candidates will also travel to Miami to participate in the fall commencement ceremony in December.

Student Research Offers Insight on Some of World's Best-Known Brands

New research conducted this semester by undergraduate and MBA students from the School of Business analyzed how high-profile brands such as Apple, Facebook, Starbucks and Walt Disney Co. are creating a meaningful impact on consumers' lives, and highlighted areas that need improvement. Their research findings were presented to brand consulting agency Landor Associates, in conjunction with sister companies Burson-Marsteller and Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates (PSB), this month in New York.

School's Undergraduates Take Top Honors in Regional Entrepreneurship Competition

The School of Business was well represented among the finalists in the South Florida chapter of the Entrepreneur's Organization Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) program, held this month at the School. The program recognizes outstanding undergraduate students who run their own businesses while attending college. Four of the six program finalists, including the grand prize winner, are all members of the School's entrepreneurship program.

Top Music Entrepreneur Explains Social Media's New Role in Marketing Music
|
Well-known music entrepreneur Steve Rifkind, CEO and chairman of SRC Records, spoke to marketing students from the School of Business in September about entrepreneurship and the impact of unconventional marketing strategies in the entertainment industry. Rifkind has signed popular rap and hip-hop artists such as Akon, David Banner and Asher Roth, a 2009 MTV Video Music Award best new artist nominee, to his SRC label.

MBA Student Wins Statewide BizPlan Competition

One of the School's MBA students has won the first annual statewide collegiate business plan competition at the annual Early Stage Venture Capital Conference. Mark Slaughter, CEO of Collaborative Bioscience, beat out six other finalists from other universities throughout the state of Florida. He is currently a student in the School's MBA for Working Professionals program.
