Leading Entrepreneurs Share Insight During Global Entrepreneurship Week
The School of Business Administration joined
organizations around the world November 16 to November 20 in participating in
Global Entrepreneurship Week, a range of activities designed to inform, mentor
and engage the next generation of entrepreneurs. The School, along with along
with other schools and colleges at the University of Miami, hosted a number of
events ranging from a presentation by pop artist Romero Britto who addressed
issues specific to artists as entrepreneurs to a talk by Florida state Senator
and former Yahoo! Executive Jeremy Ring, who discussed how to grow a global
business.

Executive-in-Residence Program Brings Leading Television Executive Back to School
School of
Business students had the opportunity in November to hear about the future of
the media, the influence of technology on the industry, and the impact of the
economic recession from one of the industry's top leaders. Former CBS executive
vice president and chief financial officer Fred Reynolds (BBA '72) hosted a
question and answer session at the School as part of its Executive-in-Residence
Program.

Faculty Member Receives Top Honors
A.
Parasuraman, professor, holder of the James W. McLamore Chair in Marketing
and vice dean of faculty has received the 2009 Elsevier
Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award, a lifetime award for exceptional
scholarly accomplishments. The award was presented on Nov. 5 by the Society for
Marketing Advances at its annual conference in New Orleans. Parasurman delivered a
plenary talk titled "My Academic Career: A Self-Reflection and Some
Suggestions" at the award session.
Parasurman also delivered a plenary talk at the Academy of
Marketing Science's World Marketing Congress in Oslo, Norway in July. The title
of the talk was "Intertwining of Service Quality, Value and Productivity:
Managerial Implications and Research Imperatives" in which he argued that the
critical link between the perspective of the service firm and the perspective
of the service customer is service quality.

Emery Moves to Board of Trustees of Prestigious Finance Association after Tenure as President
Doug Emery, chair
and professor of finance, has stepped down as president of the Financial
Management Association International (FMA), a position that capped several
years in which he has served in leadership positions with the prestigious
finance organization. He will continue to work with the organization as a member of the FMA's Board of Trustees.

The Ethics of Allocating Scarce Resources On Oct. 30, Ezekiel Emanuel, President Barack Obama's special health care advisor and a leading bioethicist visited the
School of Business to deliver the Adrienne Arsht
Distinguished Speaker Series in Ethics lecture. With UM President Donna
E. Shalala and other top UM administrators in attendance, Emanuel presented a talk titled "Who Should Get the
Liver for Transplantation? The Ethics of Allocating Scarce Resources."

Hundreds Turn out for School's First Hurricane Invitational Mock Trial Competition
Nearly 350 competitors, coaches, spectators and volunteer
attorneys descended on the School of Business Oct. 31
and Nov. 1 to participate in the first Hurricane Invitational mock trial
competition. The event was organized by
Don Donelson, business law lecturer and team advisor, who is also on the board
of directors of the American Mock Trial Association.

Business Student Becomes One of Miami's Youngest Elected Officials
School of
Business student Stephen Murray was recently elected as one of the nine members
of the Coconut Grove Village Council at elections held on Nov. 3, 2009. Murray,
a junior political science major and management department teaching assistant,
is the youngest person to ever serve on the council and one of the youngest
elected officials in Miami's history.

Homecoming Brings School's Alumni Back to Campus
Thousands of alumni including many graduates of the School
of Business returned to the "U" to join current students, faculty, and
community members to celebrate the University of Miami's Alumni Weekend and Homecoming
2009 festivities, Friday and Saturday, November 6-7.

Burger King Headquarters where a group of over 50 UM alumni, many from the
School of Business, gathered for a networking event on November 16. Alumni had the opportunity to hear from
CEO John Chidsey who spoke about the partnership between Burger King and UM.

(MBA '07) who was the runner-up and winner of $4,000 in the
High-Potential Venture category in the School's 2008 Business Plan
Competition, and Brian Rechtman (MBA '09), who first
place and $6,000 in the 2009 competition, were prominently in a
front-page article about Global Entrepreneurship Week on the UM campus,
