Amelia (Mel) Rea Maguire has been appointed associate dean for external affairs.

Faculty Member
Joins Academy of Management's Executive Committee
John Mezias, associate professor of management, was recently
elected to the Executive Committee of the International Management Division of the Academy of
Management. Each year the division elects a new member to
serve for five years on this five-member committee who leads the division and
plans both preconference workshops and all conference program activities for
the annual meetings.

MSPM Student Honored
La Honorable Academia Mundial de Educación, which honors
distinguished academic leaders of Ibero-America, recognized Ana Maria Piñeros
Ricardo with a medal and a Doctor's Distinction Honoris Causa in recognition of
her outstanding leadership, integrity and exemplary management in Education.
Piñeros, a student in the School's Masters in Science in Professional
Management (MSPM) program, is currently the Director of the La Fundación
Universitaria Juan N. Corpas.

Alumnus Named Ambassador to Spain
Alvaro E. Tomas (MSPM '08) has been named
as the Republic of Panama's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain. Spain
is considered to be, along with the embassy in Washington, D.C., one of
Panama`s most important diplomatic posts. Not only are the two countries joined
by history and culture but globalization has provided many commercial ventures
as well. Just recently a consortium led by a Spanish company won the contract
to expand the Panama Canal.

Alumnus Lands Business Deal on ABC's "Shark Tank"
For the second time this fall, an alumnus from the School of
Business has appeared on the new ABC television reality show "Shark Tank" in
search of venture capital. And this time the alumnus walked away with cash.

Alumnus Aims to Change Hollywood through Comedy
An international
stand-up comedian and lecturer, Ronnie Khalil (BBA '98, MBA '00) produced the
first-ever Middle Eastern Comedy Festival in Los Angeles with the goal of
changing the way Middle Easterners are portrayed in Hollywood media, television
and film.

authored a column on the importance of having an innovation culture in
