School-Sponsored Forum Reveals Bright Future, But Near-Term Challenges for South Florida Real Estate The fundamentals look good in many areas of the South Florida real estate market, but some sectors will continue to feel pressure in the near term from issues ranging from unemployment to tight credit markets and developer impact fees. That is the consensus of many of the industry leaders participating in the School forum South Florida Real Estate: Boom and Bust - Reflections on the Past and Realistic Perspectives for the Future. the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business,finds that product reviews in Walter Mossberg's long-running
Personal Technology column in The Wall Street Journal translate into
seismic shifts in stock price for the firms responsible for the new

Participant in School's MSPM Program Appointed President of American Eagle Pedro Fabregas, who graduates from the School's Masters in Science in Professional Management (MSPM) program next month, has been appointed president of American Eagle in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Florida and the Bahamas. "Pedro will not only be a great leader for Executive Airlines, he will be a great advocate for Puerto Rico and the region," said Peter M. Bowler, American Eagle President and CEO. Full Article

Learning the Business Side of Hospice A recent partnership betweent the School fo Business MBA program and VITAS, a hospice care company, gives students the opportunity to intern at one of the largest employers in South Florida. MBA student Umar Ahmed is completing an internship at VITAS. "It has been a great experience," the Brooklyn native says of his VITAS internship. Full Article

UM MBA Appointed to Bahamas Cabinet Post Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace (MBA '80) has been appointed minister of tourism and aviation for the Bahamas. Vanderpool-Wallace, a graduate of the School's Executive MBA program in the Bahamas, was sworn in to the cabinet position in a ceremony on July 7. He was praised in remarks by Bahamas Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, who said the UM alumnus is "well prepared for the challenges ahead" and "recognized throughout the industry." Full Article

Dean Kahn Joins President Shalala on Mission to Latin
America  School of Business Dean Barbara Kahn joined University President Donna E.
Shalala on an outreach mission to Latin America
in June to promote new strategic partnerships
with educational, business, government, and social service organizations in the
region. Kahn met with several executives from large corporations with whom she
discussed the school's plans for executive education on a global front. The
trip included meetings and other events with School of Business alumni in São
Paulo, Brazil and Buenos Aires, Argentina. In addition, Kahn and deans from the
School of Education, and the College of Engineering strengthened relationships
with colleagues at institutions of higher learning in these cities.

MBA Alumni Create First Official Caribbean Media Channel
A company catering to
consumers of Caribbean music culture, founded by two UM School of Business
alumni, has signed an agreement with YouTube. Realvibez Media was started by
David and Robert Mullings, Jamaican brothers, during their MBA program at the
School. Mullings, chief executive officer, stated "Last year Realvibez was
referred to as the closest thing to a Caribbean MTV on the Web by two media
outlets after we were invited to present at Boston College's Entrepreneurship
Society. This relationship with YouTube finally allows us to truly live up to
that title and expose Caribbean music and culture on the largest stage in
history." The Realvibez channel launched on July 26th at youtube.com/realvibeztv and is the first official Caribbean channel on the most
popular video Web site in the world. Full Article
