South Florida Multinationals Oversee $221 Billion in
Annual Revenues, Says Study From WorldCity and UM School of Business South Florida's multinational firms oversee more than $221
billion in annual revenues, a 9 percent increase year over year, according to
the just-released results of a study conducted by WorldCity and co-sponsored by
the School of Business. The study, released Feb. 26, also finds that 1,146
multinationals represent 54 nations, employ 129,000 workers in the region and
oversee 605,000 worldwide. Read more |

site has been developed to showcase the Global Business Forum hosted by the
School of Business Jan. 15 - 16, 2009. The site includes an overview video;
videos and transcripts from the keynote speakers, including Jack Welch and the
CEOs of McDonald's and Coca-Cola, among others; comprehensive session papers on
the 16 panel sessions held during the Forum; and a photo gallery, among other

Faculty Member Wins Two Best Paper Awards
A. Parasuraman, vice dean of faculty, holder of the
James W. McLamore Chair in Marketing and professor of marketing, won two best
paper awards at the 2009 AMA Winter Educators' Conference Feb. 20 - 23 in
Tampa. Parasuraman's paper, "Service Innovation in the Service-Dominant Logic:
In Search of a Framework," co-authored with Andrea Ordanini of Bocconi
University in Italy, won the Best Paper in the Services and Retailing Track
award and the Overall Best Conference Paper award.

of UM Team Heading to Finals in $50K Urban Design Competition
An MBA student from the School of Business is part of a
UM student team selected as a finalist in the Urban Land Institute/Gerald D.
Hines Student Urban Design Competition. Warren Bane and his teammates will
compete in the competition's final round in Denver April 2 for the title and

Employees Plan for Secure Retirement
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), an undergraduate
student organization, is working with a group of campus employees to help
secure their financial future. Led by Brad Cohn, a marketing major, the group
recently organized a workshop to teach local university service workers about the benefits of a

Every year, more than 150 students from the School
of Business take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. "A study
abroad experience is a very exciting way to discover new approaches to the
study of business while enhancing your professional and personal skills as
well," says Jeanne Batridge, director of advising in Undergraduate Business

Deloitte COO Joins Accounting Students in Class as Executive in Residence A
self-described "latchkey kid from the Bronx" who rose to become the U.S.
managing partner and chief operating officer of global accounting giant
Deloitte LLP, returned to his academic roots on February 17 and sat in on one
of the School's undergraduate accounting classes. He offered advice about
life and work - and why "passion" is the key to success in both areas. Read more

A Vintage Lecture
"Go into business in a subject you love. Time
flies when you're having fun at work, and it makes for a happy life." That's
what Marvin Shanken (BBA '65), the 2009 UM Alumni Association Alumnus in
Residence, told Dean Barbara E. Kahn's Strategic Brand Management class on
February 18. Shanken is the founder and chairman of M. Shanken Communications
Inc., publisher of Wine Spectator and Cigar Aficionado magazines,
among others. He became successful, he said, by following his dreams and making
them his reality, even when others thought he was making mistakes. Read more |
