Leadership Institute Launches New Programs under School of
Business Administration
The Johnson A. Edosomwan
Leadership Institute, now housed at the UM School of Business Administration,
is launching an ambitious new series of programs, products and services. With
initial funding from UM alumnus Johnson A. Edosomwan (BSIE '79, MSIE '80), the
Institute was founded in 2006 as an interdisciplinary initiative to help
identify, assist and mentor world-class leaders. Terri A. Scandura, Dean of The
Graduate School and professor of management, is the Institute's new academic

CFO Roundtable Focuses on Economic Crisis
The School of Business recently
hosted 25 South Florida chief financial officers in a roundtable entitled
"Managing Risk Through Turbulent Times." The open discussion session
focused on issues affecting businesses during the current economic crisis. More Info

School of Business Joins the Green U Initiative
Shortly after leading business executives discussed "Meeting Global Energy
Demand" at the School's Global Business Forum, the School of Business continues
to reduce its carbon footprint. The school is replacing all lights and ballasts
and installing occupancy sensors within the School of Business building
complex. The project began Monday, Jan. 26. More information about the University's Green U Initiative.

School Welcomes New Executive
MBA and MBA for Working Professionals Students
The School of Business welcomed nearly 100 new students to
its Executive MBA and MBA for Working Professionals programs in January. This
year's Health Sector Management and Policy EMBA class is one of the largest
ever, with 43 percent holding an MD degree. Overall, the new group of
professional students is 41 percent female and 59 percent male. Students come
from such diverse backgrounds as retail, finance, manufacturing and banking. Read More

Hyperion Council Holds Sixth Induction for New Members
The Hyperion Council, an undergraduate
student organization, inducted seven new members at a ceremony held on Jan. 23,
2009 in the James L. McLamore Executive Education Center. The Hyperion Council
focuses on developing projects to strengthen bonds between the local business

Executive MBA Student Published in Risk Magazine
Commodity firms and traders
will need to learn new strategies and implement innovative business plans finds
Executive MBA student, Puja Lakhlani, a student in the School's program in Palm
Beach county. The article entitled "Back to Basics" was published in Energy Risk, a leading publication on
the financial, political and legal risk in the world's oil, gas and electricity
markets.

Experts Tell Students "Cash is King" in School's New Real Estate Class
Cash is king. That was the word from South Florida residential real estate experts who spoke to undergraduate and graduate students in a new, jointly held, real estate class Jan. 26. The real estate finance class is offered as part of the school's new undergraduate major in real estate and its new Bachelor of Architecture/MBA program, which is offered in partnership with the School of Architecture. Alumni Come Together to Kick Off Global Business Forum
Following the opening reception for the Global Business Forum on Jan. 14,
alumni, faculty, leaders of the University community and friends of the School
of Business gathered for dinner at the Lowe Art Museum. Alumni from 1962 to 2008, representing
graduates with BBA, MBA, and MSPM degrees, were in attendance. Other guests included University of Miami
Trustees, President's Council members and Global Business Forum sponsors and
panelists. The evening included
cocktails, dinner and a guided tour of the museum, led by Director Brian
