Dr. ScanduraTerri Scandura, dean of the Graduate School and professor of management, will present "Mentoring and Transformational Leadership" at the annual Leadership Best Practices Conference Nov. 14 in Crystal City, Va. Scandura's presentation will focus on the importance of one-on-one coaching and mentoring and articulating a strategic transformational vision for leaders, how they are related, and best practices-based implementation methods. MBA Students at CBSMBA Students Meet with Leading New York Firms
First and second-year MBA students had the opportunity to see the economic crisis firsthand during a weeklong visit to Wall Street in early October. The visit to New York, scheduled before the current market turmoil started, included visits with six major firms, the set of CNBC's Fast Money and the New York Stock Exchange. More

This summer, junior Aubrey Swanson was chosen to participate in BDO Seidman's Pathway to Success: Mapping Out Your Future workshop in Philadelphia. Dean Kahn at CBS New York EventSchool Graduates Host NYC-Area Alumni Events
New York City-area alumni came out in force in mid-October, when Dean Barbara E. Kahn, other School administrators, faculty from the Department of Finance, and nearly 40 graduate and undergraduate finance students arrived for four days of meetings, presentations and special events. Two of those events were hosted by School alumni who have achieved high levels of financial career success with major companies. More

A School of Business alumnus is headed to the Florida Venture Forum in January after a big win in the Sunshine State Venture Challenge earlier this month. Rodolfo Saccoman (MBA '07) won the Capital Intensive Track in the contest. More
 
Harvard Alumni The School Partners with Harvard for Lecture on the Financial Crisis
The UM School of Business partnered with the  Harvard School of Business Alumni Club, hosting a lecture in Storer Auditorium on Oct. 23 for alumni. "The State of Affairs of the Financial Industry" featured guest speaker, Richard Bove, financial institutions analyst, Ladenburg Thalmann & Co. Inc. The next event will be held Nov. 18. Alumna Awarded Entrepreneur of the Year
The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has named the recipients of its 14th Annual Susanna Alvarez DiazSunshine Awards which will be presented at a luncheon on November 6, 2008.  Susana Alvarez-Diaz, president and founder of the PR/marketing and branding firm, The Alvarez Diaz Group, has been named Entrepreneur of the Year for her effort in growing her company and for the contributions she has made in the non-profit sector. Susana is also an adjunct professor teaching high potential ventures, small business management, and small business consulting within the Entrepreneurship Program at the School of Business. More

Harvard Business Club and School of Business Host Panel

The Harvard School of Business Alumni Club will again partner with the School of Business, inviting alumni to "The New Rules of Recruiting" with special guest moderator, Christine Sullivan, director of alumni career services at the Harvard Business School. The column includes quotes from Anita Cava, associate professor of business law and co-director of UM's Ethics Programs, and cites the School's new freshman business class that focuses on ethics and decision making. USA Today - October 8, 2008 - Research conducted by Robert Meyer, Warren Johnson Chair, professor of marketing, which analyzed how people in hurricane-prone areas use online weather information as storms approach, was featured in the paper and in an online weather blog. Read Article
