Frances Aldrich Sevilla-Sacasa, who earned her bachelor's degree from UM in 1977 and was most recently president of U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, joined the School of Business Administration as interim dean.

School Promotes Investment Opportunities in Puerto Rico 
Puerto Rico

The Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (PRCC) and the School of Business will co-host the Puerto Rico Health & Insurance Conference 2011 "A New Economy in Health Care." The conference will provide a unique opportunity for investors, entrepreneurs and other business professionals to learn about the Puerto Rico health care system, how health care reform will impact major health insurers and institutional providers, and what new business opportunities and challenges will result from reform. Miami Today - Jan. 27, 2011 - An article about a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation into the City of Miami's finances included quotes from Brian Barrett, an associate professor of finance, who noted that the investigation could hinder the city's ability to issue debt.

The British business publication featured research by Alok Kumar, the Gabelli Asset Management Professor of Finance, which found that investors' feelings about gambling influences the way they invest. Article

El Nuevo Herald - Jan. 14, 2011 - An article on a panel discussion about wellness, held during the Global Business Forum organized by the School of Business, featured insight from then Dean Barbara Kahn, one of the panelists, who referred to several studies that demonstrate the power of package design to attract customers to products. Article

The Miami Herald - Jan. 10, 2011 - The Global Business Forum organized by the School of Business was highlighted in a Business Monday article, which included information on the keynote speakers and the more than 30 panel sessions. The article included quotes from then Dean Barbara Kahn, who noted ``the topic of the day is healthcare policy," adding "the political ramifications, the business ramifications, we're at the right place at the right time. It's exciting to be able to do that.'' Article
