Industry Leaders Join School of Business Advisory Board
Board of Overseers
Ten international business leaders have been appointed to the School's newly formed Board of Overseers. The board, which includes the current and former top executives of some of the nation's most prominent companies, will work with the School's dean, faculty and administration in its effort to achieve recognition as a globally preeminent business school. The School of Business has announced plans for the University of Miami's second Global Business Forum, which will be held Jan. 12 - 14, 2011. This highly anticipated event, organized by the School, will be an opportunity to delve into The Business of Health Care: Defining the Future, the theme of the conference. The Forum follows the highly successful 2009 Global Business Forum, which drew nearly 700 alumni and others to campus for deep discussion on the economic crisis and others issues surrounding increased global connectivity. The 2011 Forum will include keynote addresses by prominent business leaders. It will also feature a series of panel discussions, organized by schools across campus, on such topics as medical science and technology, health care education and wellness, the future of nursing, the hospital of tomorrow, entrepreneurship, health care and the economy, ethics in medicine, health care and the environment, aging and many other significant issues that shape the business of health care. Is 2010 Your Year for a New Venture?Eric Kriss

During the spring 2010 semester, Entrepreneur-in-Residence Eric Kriss  is offering a weekly practicum on different aspects of starting a new venture. In these sessions, Kriss offers insights from his extensive entrepreneurial career on basic topics that every entrepreneur has to address. The practicum is an an invaluable resource for anyone considering a startup venture. Best of all, it is free and open to the public. MORE
Meeting of the Minds
ACC
Undergraduate students from the School of Business have been selected to showcase their research at the fifth annual Undergraduate Research Atlantic Coast Conference "Meeting of the Minds" April 16 and 17. Sara Michalski, a junior majoring in marketing, and Carlos Antonorsi, a senior majoring in economics, will represent the School at the conference which will be held at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Business Students Tapped to Help Preserve South Florida Landmark
Miami Stadium











One of the world's leading preservation organizations is asking School of Business undergraduate and graduate students for fresh ideas to revive the Miami Marine Stadium, a Key Biscayne landmark built in 1964. Amy Freitag, U.S. program director for the World Monuments Fund (WMF) in New York, was in Miami in February for discussions with civic leaders about reviving the unique 6,566-seat waterfront stadium, which has been closed for nearly two decades.  She also made a special visit to the School of Business to discuss the project with students in  a real estate class. An article about the increasing popularity of haggling with retailers included insight from Shweta Oza, assistant professor of marketing, who noted that "the economy has acted like a trigger - it's telling [consumers] that you can ask retailers for a break and that you'll usually get it." Article

NDTV (India) - Feb. 20, 2010 - A. Parasuraman, the School's vice dean of faculty, holder of the James W. McLamore Chair in Marketing, and a professor of marketing was prominently featured in a half hour television segment on customer service, related to his appearance at a leading customer service conference in India. An article detailing the supply chain challenges faced by relief agencies in the wake of the January earthquake there included insight from Haresh Gurnani, chair and professor of management, who said that when airports, ports and communications are all destroyed "disaster relief requires unprecedented cooperation and coordination between private firms, government, and NGOs."
