School Awards More than $35,000 in Annual Business Plan Competition

New business ventures aimed at improving the delivery of health care took top honors at the University of Miami's 2012 Business Plan Competition, hosted by the School of Business.

Chamber of Commerce Honors School of Business Junior as Technology Leader of the Year 

The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce has named a School of Business junior among the winners in its Annual Technology Leader of the Year Awards.

School of Business Joins School of Architecture in Regional Real Estate Competition

School of Business students and alumni competed as part of the University of Miami team in the second annual Collegiate Real Estate Challenge sponsored by the South Florida Chapter of NAIOP, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.

School Joins Leading Health Care Organization to Explore Perspectives on the Industry

The School served as the academic partner for HFMA's South Region Education & Networking Session: "The Healthcare Industry: Trends and Outlook-A National and Florida Perspective," which was held at the School.

The Miami Herald - April 27, 2012 - An article in the paper's "Starting Gate" blog noted that junior Tyler McIntyre won the Technology Student Entrepreneur award in the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce's annual Technology Leaders of the Year Awards. The article also noted that The Launch Pad at the University of Miami won the Technology Organization award. Article 

 

The Miami Herald - April 24, 2012 - The paper's "Starting Gate" blog published an article about growing family businesses, which was authored by Marianna Makri, an associate professor of management, based a panel discussion she hosted during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Article

April 9, 2012 - An article cited research by Andrew Leone, chair and professor of accounting, which found that CEOs who are also the founders of their companies are much less likely to lose their jobs when their firms are cited for accounting irregularities compared to CEOs who are not founders. In those cases the CFO is more likely to get fired. Article

ISTOÉ Indepente - March 9, 2012 - A cover story about self-control and living longer in this leading Brazilian magazine featured insight from Juliano Laran, an assistant professor of marketing,  who offered tips on how people can change their perceptions of acts of self-control from "work" ("this is hard work") to fun ("this is fun").
