For the past six months, Paperitalo Publications has brought you Advertising Arguments each Friday. Beginning in February, the newsletter will return to its monthly delivery schedule. We hope these weekly topics have been helpful, and we leave you with some final thoughts from the authors of this series....On the Pages of My RadioChuck Swann, Senior EditorMany, many years ago, when I was a young man, my early media and journalism experiences seemed to ricochet back and forth between broadcasting and printed media. I felt at home in both arenas, but there never seemed to be any real relationship between the two. My life continued as a series of engagements in one or the other, and never the twain did meet.
And then, one day, I got a telephone call from Jim Thompson, who had known me for years but seemed to like me anyway. He explained some of the things that were happening at Paperitalo Publications and offered me the chance to get on board. Bingo! The twain met!
Today, there is a professional-type microphone mounted above my computer screen. Obviously, I am still exercising the ol' magic fingers on a keyboard, but not with a view to seeing what I write in print--except on computer screens around the globe. And the microphone? Paperitalo Publications offers the pulp and paper industry's only news and features radio program. You can find Pulp & Paper Radio International on the Internet at
www.pnpri.com. The show is called Nips and Jim Thompson is the host, with contributions from some of the rest of us. You can listen to the show live at 7:00 a.m. EST each Monday morning--or listen to it at any other time, at your convenience. It's always available to you, 24/7.
Customer ServiceCurt Gifford, Sales ManagerWe are all gifted with personality traits that allow us to excel in our respective fields. My gifts are in relationships building and service. This is why it is truly a joy to be in a position where I interact with, and help, companies in the pulp and paper industry reach their fullest potential. My responsibilities in customer service give me the opportunity to help clients not only stay in constant contact with us, but also allow them to be aware of ways they can improve as a company. I enjoy serving our clientele in an effort to help them grow, and would love the opportunity to help your company as well. Paperitalo Publications takes pride in providing excellent customer service.
Our Clients MatterHelen Roush, VP Communications SciencesPaperitalo Publications is like no other media company that you will come across in this industry. Not only do we work with our advertisers to make sure, not only that their products and services are being marketed in the industry in a superior way, but also to make sure they are happy with the services we provide for them. We work hard to make sure that our advertisers' messages are clear and effective and that they reach their target audiences. Keeping our advertisers happy is very important to us.
We sincerely believe in having a partnership with our advertisers. Some of them have been with us for a long time, because they know from their own surveys that their name recognition has increased through advertising with us. We have loyal advertisers. Give us a chance to help your company increase its name recognition in the industry. We will not disappoint you.
A Better WayJim Thompson, FounderI have been a writer all my life--my first "publication" was hand-set with hand type and distributed to the neighbors on our block when I was about eight or nine years old. I think it had a publishing run of three days. Children become bored easily.
After earning a degree in engineering, my first employer discovered I was an engineer who could write. And so, I edited piping design manuals for eighteen months before I moved on to another assignment. I guess you could say that was my first professional writing assignment.
Trade journals have traditionally been sweetness and light--and boring. When I started writing Nip Impressions for a major publication in our industry, nearly fifteen years ago, I was determined not to be boring. As we expanded, we have not been boring in content nor in delivery methods--on purpose. As of this writing, no one else in our field does Internet radio, yet we have been doing it for three years already. No one else is "simultweeting" alongside their radio show with even more content. (They would have to be on radio first, wouldn't they?)
We intend to continue being "not boring" or, if you prefer, exciting. There are many young engineers and scientists coming into our industry. In every other aspect of their life they are using the latest in media devices. We expect them to be attracted to our content, and hence your advertising, when we offer the same here.
If you already advertise with us, thank you. If you don't, I would suggest you ask yourself why? Why not affiliate yourself with the most exciting media company in the pulp and paper industry worldwide? You will be glad you did.
