Advertising During a Slow Economy

"A man who stops advertising to save money is like a man who stops a clock to save time" - Henry Ford

I have spoken with several executives who told me that, due to business being slow, their advertising budgets were being cut or cut out entirely. This is not a smart business move.

Advertising during a slow economy is a smart business move that will help grow a business now and in the future. In fact, companies that advertise during a slow economy are the businesses that find more success as the economy grows.

According to a study by McGraw-Hill involving 600 industrial companies from 1980 to 1985, businesses that maintained or increased their current advertising through the 1981-82 recession had achieved sales growth of approximately 19% after the economy rebounded. The gains attained during this recession were permanent and actually expanded during the three years after the recession. By 1985, for those companies that advertised, sales had increased 256%, compared to those that did not advertise.

Regardless of the economy, your prospects will continue to need your products or services. Staying in front of your prospects through advertising will keep you in their minds and help you stand out from your competitors. Moreover, if your competitors are cutting back on their advertising dollars, keeping your advertising budget consistent will help you rise above the mere ambient noise in your business area.

Advertising will help companies that may never have considered advertising before. If a company is not advertising, how will its prospects ever learn of its existence? Advertising creates awareness and interest. Strong advertising can establish strong awareness and interest for your brand even before sales contacts are made.

Paperitalo Publications is the largest online media company in the pulp & paper industry. We communicate daily with your target audience. As the trusted source for news in the industry, we can help your company rise above the noise and increase your brand name awareness in the industry. If you are looking for a competitive advantage, look to Paperitalo Publications!
