Greetings!
Spring Training.....Only Learner/Researchers need apply.
It's that time of year again. For those of us who are addicted to the All-American Game of Baseball, pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training next week. And whether your team won the World Series (congrats to my San Francisco friends) or repeated their Knower/Judger rule of being the perennial pariah (nods to my Chicago Cubs fans), hope springs eternal.
Baseball (the game, not the profession) is a very Learner/Researcher institution. It is where judgment is deferred to preparation and performance. It's not what we THINK will happen (as most sports journalists would have us believe). It's what actually (and factually) happens on the field 162 times a year for each of the 30 Major League teams.
Yet we seem to set data aside and just KNOW that this is the year. This is the breakout season for our boys. We watch every trade and contract rumor (by the time this is published we'll know more about the future of Mr. Pujols in a Cardinals jersey....or we won't). We scan the papers for stats on all the kids at Spring Training from the minor leagues. And they work on their processes to improve their results.
But as the season unwinds, we'll see the pitcher with the bad body language....or the manager kicking dirt at the umpire....or the whining speedster thrown out at third. Clearly all Knower/Judgers in a game meant to be enjoyed at the Learner/Researcher level.

Balancing Act.
You've set a goal and you're working on achieving it. Your Knower/Judger is making rules that will help you achieve that goal, like I won't eat any sugar or I will make 10 outbound calls a day. But it's not working. If the K/J is so strong, why can't you stop breaking your own rules? (Read more...)

You Lost Me At 'Hello'.
Remember the movie Jerry Maguire? Renée Zellweger blubbers to Tom Cruise, "You had me at hello." But when meeting new people and making a connection with them is how you make a living, what are the chances that the connection is made that easily or quickly? (Read more...)

Back in the Dark Ages of Rally in the US (the 1970's)...one intrepid crew, the Pooh Corner Rally Team with it's driver Kim DeMotte attacked rally roads in Datsun 510's. He'll get to do it again in this year's Rally in the 100 Acre Wood in Missouri in....you guessed it....a 1972 Datsun 510!

How does Rally co-driving prepare you for improving performance in teams and executives?
|
I am a Rally Co-driver in several series in the Western
Hemisphere. You can read
about my racing history at my rally website. When I am competing, it is my job to corral all the best performances
from myself, the driver, the mechanics and any other members of the crew
supporting us for the weekend. As you
can imagine, as in any racing, egos are strong, tensions are high, and the
atmosphere is ripe for interpersonal conflict. I have a track record of co-driving for racers of any caliber
(National Champions to first event novices) and delivering results that exceed
their expectations. For the rest of my living, I coach executives in leadership and team dynamics; teams in developing higher levels of trust,
understanding and camaraderie; and individuals in making changes supportive of
getting what they want in life. In this arena too, I
have a reputation for delivering results that exceed their expectations.
HDClarity
is an e-zine for those wanting to develop more of that trust,
understanding and camaraderie in their work environment, and their life
in general. A smoother running team is a more profitable team. It get
things done faster, for less cost.
