Are We Helping?

Can We Do More?

*******

Greetings!

40 years ago, a small group in Toronto were deeply concerned about the fearful atmosphere caused by the Cold War  and the widespread anxiety about the possible outbreak of nuclear war.  They asked the question, What can we do to counteract this?  How can we contribute to a renewal of hope and purpose for our culture?

As students of anthroposophy, members of the group were very familiar with the founding of the first Waldorf School in Stuttgart in the aftermath of the First World War.  This was not only a school for children - it was a healing impulse for a war -torn civilization.  So the Toronto group decided to found a  Waldorf School here and acquired the property at 9100 Bathurst St. Since that time, several related institutions have been established, and the campus is now an important destination: 1000s of people are touched and helped every year.

World War I and the Cold War are now only memories, but the fear and anxiety persist.  The vision of the founders - to contribute to a renewal of hope and purpose for our culture - is urgent and relevant today.  We'll keep working!

Sincerely,

Mark

P.S.  It is also interesting to note that the campus is part of an emerging "multi-cultural cluster" of social innovation on Bathurst St.  Altogether, the  Toronto Waldorf School, Hesperus Village, Ner Israel Yeshiva, and the Ja'ffari Community Centre have dedicated 100+ acres to cultural and spiritual purposes. (The Lebovic Jewish Community Campus to the North is using another 40 acres for similar goals.)  This cluster provides leadership for cultural values and human development, giving a much-needed  "counterweight" to the intensive commercial development that has swept through the area.

Introductory Anthroposophy Course with Daniel Hafner

Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) made available the initiation science which previously was the hidden source of all culture.  He called this path in its modern form Anthroposophy, which means thinking in accordance with the being of man.  It gives rise to fruitful and radically transformed approaches in all fields of life...

More hidden, but also more fundamental than any such practical applications, is the style of thinking that generates them.  It is to this way of thinking itself that these evenings offer an introduction. The course is for people with little or no prior acquaintance with Anthroposophy. Weekly course begins September 16.  Details
