"Imagination is more important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand." - Albert Einstein *******
In this issue: Playing and Working With Imagination |
Greetings!
The word "imagination" has a variety of meanings. It can suggest escapism and idle fantasy - a retreat into dreamland. Or it can be seen as a capacity for leadership - the ability to "see" exciting possibilities for the future. A leading dictionary definition is very practical: "The faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects not present to the senses."
Imagination is all these things - and more. Each of us possesses this faculty. How effectively are we using it?
Sincerely,
Mark |

Encounters With Imagination
| | A FESTIVAL OF ARTS AND EDUCATION, 11-22 July, 2011
The capacity for imagination is central to advances in all fields of human endeavour. Scientists, artists and educators alike rely upon creative capacities to forge new understanding and build healthy relationships...to perceive living interconnections between seemingly separate beings. These reveal that individuals and objects are but a part of a whole meaning-filled world. Imagination lifts the veil of materialism and offers insights into how to work holistically in any endeavour.
 | Leed Jackson |
Highlighted Workshop: HEART OF MATTER - MAKING IN METAL - with Leed Jackson Working with metals engages us in a process where we can find a deeper connection to the whole, to "mother earth," that can bring personal, social and ecological healing. We will work with copper, silver, lead, tin, carbon and silica, creating both aesthetic forms and inner soul structures. We will use the processes of casting, etching, forging and enamelling to explore movement between three alchemical states: form (salt), mobility (mercury), and enthusiasm (sulphur).

Practicing Imagination - Thresholds Art Symposium
| |
The Thresholds Art Symposium brings together artists and community to create a unification of colour, form, and space. Participants may choose to apprentice in sculpture or lazure painting (using plant pigments), with many hours each day in hands-on learning.
Highlighted workshop: Lazure painting - with John Stolfo
Lazure painting can be seen as a 'cultural impulse' with universal implication and application. Not everyone, sometimes even experienced lazurists, fully grasp its essential principles and importance as a way of transforming interior and exterior spaces through the inner power of colour. Lazure should support spatial function. It can achieve this through colour mood and randiant transparency. Lazure ensouls space with healing life... 28 September-2 October, 2011 at Hesperus.
