COME CHECK OUT THE "NEW STUFF", BUT PLEASE DON'T CROSS THE FENCES! - Ed.
Greetings!

During the Summer, I trust you have found ample opportunity to randomize your neural pathways, and now step into the Fall with fresh insights and enthusiasm.

It has become clear to me that we must do a much better job of making anthroposophy accessible. How can we establish a "creative tension"  between:
-  the Spiritual Science that we are striving to cultivate in the Anthroposophical Society and
- the profound spiritual experiences and social insights that are arising in so many people today

One starting point is the international News Conference planned for the Goetheanum in November.  The intention is to spark the interest of mainstream journalists in our work - not an easy task.

In Thornhill, we are planning a series of focus groups to learn about current attitudes towards meditation in general and Anthroposophy in particular.  This will help us to understand the dynamics of the creative tension mentioned above, and to find ways to be more responsive to the public.

Please feel free to contact me anytime if you would like to share what's on your mind!

Sincerely,

Mark

Hesperus Village welcomes
JOHN RUSSELL, Executive Director

John Russell

With Phase 2 construction well underway, Hesperus Village has announced its strategy for the next phase of development.  In keeping with the vision of the City of Vaughan - a city of choice that promotes diversity, innovation and opportunity for all citizens - Hesperus is redoubling its efforts to provide a healthy and supportive living environment for our city's elders, enabling them to participate fully in the community.

The Hesperus Board has recruited JOHN RUSSELL as Executive Director to lead this exciting new phase.  John recently led the Villa Verde project in Italy, demonstrating how to harness "intangible" wealth vested in indigenous knowledge, local social values, and nurturing patterns of living.

Hesperus is not only concerned with the needs of its current and future residents, but is actively making partnerships with other organizations that have similar goals.  For more information, please contact John Russell.
Spiritual Science Research Centre

Arscura at Home Base

The composition of Raphael's "School of Athens" is balanced - and dynamic. If Raphael were to visit one of today's "think-tanks, he would no doubt paint a picture with very different qualities - polarized and rigid.

The Spiritual Science Research Centre provides an alternative.  It is a place where researchers can meet, collaborate, and prepare to launch new projects.  Resources include meeting space, coaching (aka encouragement!), help with literature searches, and a lending library.

The Centre is located in our Library in the lower level of the Hesperus Building.  Visitors and potential collaborators are always welcome.  (Please call ahead to confirm the time - 416-892-3656)

From a Journal of William Brooks

If I were a painter, I would learn about colour from  the reeds out by the Pond - those brown tasseled stalks behind the new green blades...

If I were a naturalist, I would resolve to follow the cycle through the seasons and observe the intermediate stages...

If I were a sculptor, I would play with these forms (stalk and blade) and try to show "invisible" movement...

If I were a dancer, I would practice their gestures and invite everyone to step with bare feet into the mud and help create a forest swirl...

If I were a preacher, I would go to the streets and proclaim, "God is not dead!  I have seen a miracle at the Pond!"...

But what would a simple poet do?

Brown crumbling stalks,

Green hard blades,

Passing by themselves.
