Thornhill Campus Bulletin
February 2010
9100 Bathurst Campus
Dear ,

When I first visited the Campus in 1973, the Waldorf School had just been built.  Walking through the school's front door, I had feelings that I had never felt before.  Since that time, thousands of people have visited the campus, and many of them have had similar feelings, and formed deep and lifelong relationships here.

Today, the campus is becoming an important cultural landmark in York Region.  We are part of a "multicultural cluster" on Bathurst St. that provides a balance to rampant and obsessive  commercial development.  More and more people are realizing that there are things that cannot be obtained in a shopping mall.

This monthly Bulletin contains some of the highlights of upcoming cultural activities on the campus.  (We include a few off-campus items as well.)  Please contact me anytime if you have any questions or suggestions!

(Note to regular readers:  Sorry for running this intro a second time...I'll write something new next month!   MM)

Friedrich Schiller - LIVE in Thornhill!

Mary StuartEach year, Grade 12 students at the Toronto Waldorf School present a full length play, taking responsibility for everything from costumes and set design to lighting and promotion.   This year the class will be performing Mary Stuart by Friedrich Schiller (a great choice, in my opinion...Ed.)

Performances run from Thursday through Saturday, January 28-30.  Advance ticket sales in the TWS Lobby.  (Some performances may be sold out.)  Call the school to check times: 905-881-1611.
Public Lecture on February 24: "Strengthening Our Immunity"
CAMADr. Guus van der Bie M.D. will open the conference of the Canadian Anthroposophical Medical Association with a public lecture, "Strengthening Our Immunity".

During the following Conference, Dr. van der Bie will address questions concerning the immune system  from a phenomenological and anthroposophical perspective. Then we will  look at ways to help our patients who struggle with issues of the immune system. Several physicians will share experiences from their practice and explore the use of anthroposophical remedies. In the art and eurythmy courses we will experience some of the related therapies.

Public Lecture: 7:30pm, Wednesday February 24 at the Toronto Waldorf School.

Library Programs
February 10, 8pm:   The local Branch of the Anthroposophical Society meets on the second Wednesday of the month in the Meeting Room across from the Library.  All are welcome, and it's a great opportunity to meet members and learn more about the Society.  Programs include a mix of presentations, conversation and artistic activities.  This month, young adults will be sharing with us some of their passions and insights.  Please plan to join us and help to build some stronger bridges.

February 17, 8pm: DROP-IN EVENING.  Informal conversation about contemporary spiritual life and practices.  We have been spreading an illustrated map of the cosmos on the table to provide us with context and inspiration.  As well as a prepared presentation, there is always time for further introductions and conversation.

ALL ARE WELCOME at each or both events.  Please contact Mark McAlister at 416-892-3656.
Toward a Culture of Peace - A weekend in Barrie with Michael Lipson
Lipson
"Our world is governed by inner and outer hostilities. Today, the world's precious resources of water, oil, air and arable land are only growing scarcer -- giving more cause for conflict.
Unless....Unless we develop a consciousness of peace and mutual gift-giving.
Peace, however, depends not only on concord between humans, or between humans and the kingdoms of nature.  It requires concord between human beings and the heavens.  We can go beyond resources to the very Source...Let us spend a weekend discovering the deep well-spring of generosity we can access within. Let us go beyond  resources-to the very Source itself. The way is through group discussion and group meditation.  Using words, we can access the place before words, where we are truly at one."

1:00pm Saturday March 27, to 3:00pm Sunday March 28.     Cost: $150.  Details: E-mail Treasa O'Driscoll, or visit The Novalis Project.

NOTE: This event will be held at 87 Toronto St. in Barrie.
