One fundamental for good chipping is to be connected while you stroke the ball.  Connected means keeping your arms and elbows close to your body during the chip.  The back of your arms should brush your chest while you swing back and through.  By staying connected, you will have a chipping motion that is made by using your bigger muscles that are easier to control than your arms and hands.  A simple turn back and through should propel the club.  If you stand away from the ball and swing with your arms and hands, the ball can go anywhere.  Tighten up your chipping game and you will score better.
