Greetings to YOU and a Warm Fall Welcome to our growing community of busy women who want to gracefully THRIVE amidst the challenges of work and life.

 

As a Resilience Coach, every day I help women release the misguided notion that self-care is a luxury. Instead, I wholeheartedly embrace the philosophy that it is essential, encouraging them to work hard, play hard, and rest well.     

 

Many of us feel it's selfish to spend the time and money to treat ouselves when there are still things we need to do, people we must see, and places we have to go. (Ever heard a "Type-A" person say "I'll rest when I'm dead?" I have!) We stay so busy running and pushing to accomplish our daily tasks that we forget to re-fuel, driving ourselves to depletion.

    

Because I firmly believe that enjoying a restorative lifestyle is the #1 way to stay focused, positive, and excited about work and life, I intentionally build "rest and renew" blocks into my monthly schedule.  People often comment on how much I get accomplished, yet are shocked to find me browsing at Barnes and Noble in the middle of a work day, hiking with a picnic lunch to the labyrinth, or cat-napping on a sunny bench at the arboretum.  Believe it or not, these short bursts of downtime keep me tapped into a high level of inspiration and creativity, helping me deliver my best self to the world.

   

This month I had the pleasure of re-connecting with a childhood passion... walk-trotting beautiful horses in the crisp fall air down wooded trails, across streams, and through some pretty breath-taking scenery at Jordan Hollow Stables in Stanley, VA with Laurie DiSanto, a fun-loving friend who shares a love of horses and outdoor adventure!

 

If you regularly carve out time for relaxation and rejuvenation, Woo Hoo! If not, I challenge you start right NOW. Don't just read this and think "that's a great idea but it won't work for me." Plan something special into your calendar and stick to it. It should be a world away from work, free from responsibilities, worries, concerns, and even goals.

 

What will it be for you? Perhaps its simply reading a book, getting a massage or manicure, decorating a room, or going to the movies with a close friend.  Whatever you choose, remember you deserve a few sacred moments to enjoy as you wish!
