Synergy Success E-Zine, SEPTEMBER 2012

Everyone has inside of her a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love!

What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!

~ Anne Frank

Greetings!

Greetings to YOU and a Huge Warm Welcome to our strong community of high-achieving women who want to gracefully thrive amidst the challenges of work and life.  I Hope you enjoyed our Labor Day holiday and took some time to rest and recharge.

Ever noticed how Women think and work so differently than Men? Just the other day one of my clients was told to "leave her feelings at home" by her male business partner because she had "wasted time" consoling an upset client.  Like her, many of us still work in male dominated corporate environments that simply are not designed to bring out our best as women.

Yes, of course it is important to have intense focus, competitive drive, and task-driven strategies...but it's also important to completely honor who we are as women, to be able to maximize our potential to create balanced success by weaving in our personal gifts, purpose and intuition into our work.  This is what we need to sustain an exceptional level of fulfillment and productivity without burning out or breaking down.

I know all too well that toxic success leads to burnout, and how long the journey is back to

balance.  As a high-achiever, and perfectionist by nature, I pushed myself past the point of no return in two previous careers because I didn't know there was a better way.  (That's why I'm so passionate about sharing my story and resilience toolkit with others!)

I coach so many women who are still trying to work like men, because it's what we learned to do.  Working too much and too hard, in a way that sometimes feels like it even hurts our soul.  At the end of the day, instead of feeling supported, energized, and inspired we are left feeling isolated, drained, and mis-understood.

But here's a piece of GOOD NEWS!  Today there's an exciting shift happening as more businesses than ever are recognizing the value of emotional intelligence in the workplace, sending staff through Leadership Development Training to learn the art of assertive communication, empathy, team-building, resilience, and collaboration.  By proactively building leaders at every level of an organization, they're finding both customer satisfaction and increased employee retention are sky-rocketing...I can just imagine the late Stephen Covey would say "it's a WIN-WIN!"

I know... There are certain things you don't have power to change, but I challenge you to look for positive ways you can take control of your response to the environments that control you.  The "6 Quick Tips to THRIVE as a WOMAN at Work" in this issue are sure to give you a jump-start.  Is there a way you could better design your work more around your life?  What could you accomplish if you woke up in the morning excited to work in a way that feeds your soul and brings more joy and freedom to be authentically you? (yes, with feelings and all!)

I'd love to hear what your insights and a-ha's are about this piece of good news.

6 Quick Tips to THRIVE as a WOMAN at Work!

1. Start your Day with Intention: Establish a Meaningful Morning Practice where you Connect with Spirit, Focus your Mind, and Nurture your Body.

2. Own Your strengths and be ready to Apply them when facing challenges, instead of spending a lot of time in area's that don't come naturally.  This will keep you Working Smarter Not Harder with more creativity!

3. Be Proactive: Knowing Your Values and Priorities will help guide you to quickly accept or decline opportunities that are offered.  Perhaps it's time to Hire a coach, hire a financial planner, join a mastermind group, or subscribe to an uplifting magazine that is aligned with who you authentically are.

4. Be Confident: Have positive expectation... Expect male counterparts to treat you with respect and honor the differences you bring to the organization. Don't try to "work like a man" to fit in. Do what you need to do the way you need to do it without apologies.

5. Celebrate Yourself: All of us love recognition, so appreciate your own efforts with praise or an honest compliment. Don't expect others to validate and affirm you. An ongoing commitment to Personal Growth will help you naturally apply the Q-TIP approach: "Quit Taking Things Personally!"  Have the tools to set boundaries and stand up for what's important to you. Learn words and phrases for how to disagree gracefully, and be willing to follow through.

6. Surround Yourself with empowered, strong, positive and collaborative professional women like yourself. There are many networking opportunities, the Synergy Success Circle being only one of them.  Stop hanging out with negative people, fill your home or apartment with things that bring you joy.

7. Trust your Intuition: Last, but most importantly, be sure to take your Intuition to Work!  It's one of our most valuable assets as women.  Don't let people tell you" emotions have no business in the workplace"... when well managed and expressed constructively, they are invaluable to our success.  Intuition is designed to guide us, and the most successful women say they often make their best decisions based on this powerful  inner feeling of "knowing".

HOW DO YOU TACKLE YOUR WORK?

 ~ by Edgar Guest

How do you tackle your work each day?

Are you scared of the job you find?

Do you grapple the task that comes your way

With a confident, easy mind?

Do you stand right up to the work ahead

Or fearfully pause to view it?

Do you start to toil with a sense of dread

Or feel that you're going to do it?

You can do as much as you think you can,

But you'll never accomplish more;

If you're afraid of yourself, young man,

There's little for you in store.

For failure comes from the inside first,

It's there if we only knew it,

And you can win, though you face the worst,

If you feel that you're going to do it.

Success! It's found in the soul of you,

And not in the realm of luck!

The world will furnish the work to do,

But you must provide the pluck.

You can do whatever you think you can,

It's all in the way you view it.

It's all in the start that you make, young man:

You must feel that you're going to do it.

How do you tackle your work each day?

With confidence clear, or dread?

What to yourself do you stop and say

When a new task lies ahead?

What is the thought that is in your mind?

Is fear ever running through it?

If so, just tackle the next you find

By thinking you're going to do it!
