Golf Shop Hours
Wednesday to Sunday
6:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m
We have built in a light blue tee sheet reminder each day beginning at 11:30am. Golf members are still welcome to play in these blue time slots. These are simply a reminder that, due to the heat, we will not be sending out any white rental carts after 11:30am each day. All white carts are expected to return to the outside service staff by 3:30pm unless otherwise arranged with the Golf Shop.

Greetings!
Initially we thought we might have trouble with content for the Divot Digest during the summer months but this month's issue certainly proves that needn't be a concern. The other part is that virtually everything is good. Make sure to take note of the Phoenix First Tee Odyssey Cup coming on June 23rd, there is more about that later in the Divot Digest. Another thing to note is the survey from the Golf Shop. You will find a link to the survey in Jeff Ostlund's article.
Earlier this week you received a notice from TVGC that billing errors had occurred at AAM. Below is the text of a letter from AAM concerning the billing errors and the steps taken to rectify them. If you are using SurePay the funds should be back in your account this coming week. Scott Thiss in his article details the steps the TVGC Board of Directors is taking.

 | From The President | Thanks to our TVGC members we have exceeded our goal for prepaid 2014 annual golf dues. This is the first year we have sent dues selection notices by email instead of direct mail. This change allowed us the ability to send reminders for members to complete their selection and over 90% responded. Our final tally is: # Prepaid $ 2014 Actual 162 $1.32 M 2013 Actual 153 $1.24 M The Board and Finance Committee welcomes the transition of our Controller, Tenna Dillon, from contract status to full time employee. This is a solid move as we build our management staff and develop continuity of operations. The Board met on June 10th using Webex online meeting technology. We approved a one year lease for an office in the Alexander building next to Fire Station. This will be used to house our Controller who will now be on campus to better serve member and operating needs. Larry Spang was a great help in looking at alternatives to meet our needs which included ruling out the maintenance facility option. One of the Critical Issues identified by the Board at our planning sessions was the need to improve administrative systems. This need was brought to our attention by member's feedback regarding problematic issues with our current provider, AAM. To address these issues Mitch Galnick facilitated discussions with Northstar Technologies, our POS (point of sale) provider for Golf Shop activities. Based on our findings the Board has made a decision to move from AAM to Northstar because the change will permit improved member billing, more robust accounting/information systems and reduce provider (AAM) errors. Clarence Hein, Treasurer, is supportive of this conversion which will occur in August after completion of the independent audit. After an initial investment we estimate the changeover will result in annual cost savings. The Board authorized Chuck Torrance to complete negotiations with the TVA regarding the Putting Green/Desert Maintenance agreement. A new agreement will better spell out each party's responsibilities. We appreciate the TVA's confidence in our staff to perform these important functions. A small task force of Bill Banholzer, Clarence Hein and Pete Robinson along with others is reviewing changes needed for our By-laws. A draft will be reviewed by the Board in the fall and a final proposal presented to the membership for approval as part of the annual meeting process. A big thanks to all the members that responded to our needs for annual dues...it's very much appreciated. Scott Thiss

 | Notes From Your Pro |
Greetings golf members. Although the summer heat is setting in, we still have a few events on the horizon. Our second annual 4th of July Flag Game will be held on our Nation's birthday. The next edition of Glow Ball golf will be a 9-hole scramble on the evening of July 10th. Sign ups for both events are now available on ForeTees.
We are in our final phase of the season end golf shop merchandise sale. From now until June 30th, all clothing, headwear and shoes will be 45% off the listed retail price (an additional 25% off member price).
The new reciprocal agreement with Rio Verde is underway and has been well received thus far. For those of you unfamiliar, we have agreed go back and forth at no-charge for members of both clubs from June 1st - September 30th. Please put in your tee time request with our golf staff. We can call to secure your tee time(s) no earlier than three days in advance.
Although the Golf Shop is closed on Monday's and Tuesday's, we want to remind you that we have a staff member on duty to monitor the facilities from 6am - 3pm. Among other duties this person is responsible for setting the driving range, sanitizing and filling water coolers and tracking guest play. If you need any assistance on these days, please feel free to ask the staff member on duty.
With the recent staff change in the Golf Shop and Donnie's impending pregnancy, we have realigned our association liaisons. The following breakdown details the new liaison(s) for each league:
- MGA: Matt Finch
- WGA: Ross McLean & Ryan Windett
- NDA: Justin Davis (with assistance from Donnielle Ostlund)
- CGA: Ryan Windett & Steve Haagenson
- Lady Putters: Donnielle Ostlund (with a TBD substitute for November and December)
We are always striving to improve our golf operation and your feedback is very valuable in helping us plan for the future. Please take a few minutes to fill out this short member satisfaction survey. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses.
Click Here to take the survey.
For those of you interested, we just couldn't wait to find out the gender of our new little one. Donnie and I are anxiously awaiting the arrival of a baby boy and want to assure you that his first pair of baby FootJoy's are already on order.
Until next time, keep em' flying long and straight!

| From The Course |
As we are sweltering away here in the heat, many parts of the nation are experiencing strange weather patterns. This week in particular we have been real close to record high temperatures, I know many parts of the Midwest are seeing flooding, the US Open at Merion has flash flooding and hail storms.....not exactly a firm and fast set up this year, then our thoughts and prayers go out to those family or friends affected by the wildfires in and around Colorado and also the tornadoes that ripped through Oklahoma.
Back here we are seeing a little quicker transition than we would like. Average humidity for the month of May was 29%, so far through the middle of June that has dropped to 17%, so we are not seeing much Bermuda movement just yet.
The Peaks golf course was sprayed out with Revolver last week, so the Ryegrass over there is starting to wilt and disappear. This week we have been busy spraying several areas of the Peaks course with Merit, our annual grub control insecticide. In all we sprayed around 35 acres, including all greens, green banks and any areas that saw any skunk or javelina damage last summer and fall.
On the Ranch golf course we have just this week completed aerifying greens with a ¼" hollow tine and all the tee boxes with a ½" hollow tine. Both greens and tees also received a decent topdressing, we would anticipate these being completely healed when we reopen on Monday July 1st. Fairways are being verticut and topdressed also over the next couple of weeks. As on the Peaks, we will also spray Revolver and Merit next week.
Several minor projects are being completed on both courses, which I'm sure you will all notice when you return in the Fall!
For those that are still here at Tonto, we have removed all cart signage for the summer. Please abide by the 90 degree rule and be wary of any stress and/or wet areas when driving in fairways.
As we anxiously await the arrival of the humidity and the monsoon season to assist in our Bermuda growth, we hope all are enjoying their spring break from Tonto so far, stay cool and stay safe!
On behalf of the Golf Course Maintenance team,
Dean Hall
Golf Course Superintendent

 | AAM Billing Errors |
June 13, 2013
Dear Tonto Verde Golf Club Member,
Due to a system error, on 6/5/2013 incorrect charges were posted to your account. On your upcoming July statement, you will see credits posted on the same day which cancelled out those charges.
If you have the direct debit/SurePay option on your account, you may have noticed that the normal June dues along with those additional charges were pulled on 6/6/2013. The funds for those incorrect charges have since been placed back into your account and you will see the corresponding entry on your invoice/ledger.
Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. While everything has been corrected and an additional auditing step has been put into place to prevent this from reoccurring, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at 602.906.4940, or by e-mail at csr@aamaz.com.
Sincerely,
Customer Care

Wednesdays Are For Men
My message today is a simple one. I want to encourage you to become a regular participant in the one day each week that is set aside primarily for the men at Tonto Verde. That day is Wednesday. It is our day, and as is the case at most private golf clubs, it is intended to provide a venue for members to interact and become acquainted with a wider cross section of other members than those they may play with on a regular basis. I realize TV is very much a club of "groups," and I am not here to discourage those. In fact I play in several groups myself, and enjoy them immensely. However, playing in the same groups all the time doesn't allow for interaction with other members, which I contend is important to the long term health of a club's ongoing membership.
If you are a current member of the Tonto Verde Men's Golf Association (TVMGA) (which costs only $35 a year), there are several ways to participate in Men's Day each week. First, once a month the TVMGA holds a golf "shotgun" event proceeded by a breakfast meeting or followed by a dinner meeting. The golf shop puts together the event. On most of the other Wednesdays throughout the season, the golf shop also puts together an event. Tee times are set aside for this, and all you need to do is sign up and the golf staff will make up the foursomes or if you prefer you can sign up with your own group and play the MGA event. A third way to participate on Wednesdays is to get a partner and sign up for "fall best ball" and/or "spring best ball."
There is an added bonus for participating in any or all this events. Each time you do, you will earn a point towards the MGA Cup qualifying. All those who qualify for this season ending event share in a cash pool payout, which last year total $6,000.
Wednesdays are for men, so if you can work it out, I hope you will become a regular Men's Day participant.
Russ Chance, President TVMGA

Nine & Dine News
|
We are the Tonto Verde Nine and Dine Women's Golf Association or NDA. The NDA provides a fun, yet competitive, environment for women who choose to play only 9 holes of golf, while improving their game. Supporting the concept of improving their game, the Rules and Etiquette Chair regularly shares information on new or modified PGA or Tonto Verde Golf Club rules. Cash prizes are awarded at the end of the season placing emphasis on attendance, recognition of competitive event winners, pars, birdies, eagles, holes-in one, Interclub and Dream Scores.
While wishing you all a wonderful and fun-filled summer, the NDA Board members are looking forward to your safe return to Tonto Verde for our first 2013/2014 NDA event. The "Welcome Back Wine and Cheese" is scheduled for Monday, November 4, 2013, 3:00 p.m., at Linda Carpenter's House.
As we look forward to next fall, there are some housekeeping items we'd like to address. If your name, email address or phone number was incorrect in the WGA/NDA /Lady Putters Directory last season, please email your corrections to NDA Vice President, Diane Kirk, dkirk@centurytel.net, ASAP.
The NDA is looking forward to growing its Social Membership Program. Social memberships are available to women who have previously been a regular member of the NDA for at least one year. This includes women who have since surrendered their Tonto Verde golf club membership. This category of NDA membership allows women to participate in the NDA monthly business meetings and luncheons, and social functions. Social membership forms and dues are submitted to the Membership Committee Chairs. The dues are then forwarded directly to the Treasurer.
For more information on the NDA and its various membership programs, please contact the following NDA Membership Committee Chairs: Molly Casey, tollytwo@gmail.com; or Barb Rottunda, jbar118@hickorytech.net

Master Plan Update
As most of you are aware, TVGC is in the process of conducting a Master Plan for the golf courses and our facilities. We have obtained the services of Mike Gogel of Mike Gogel Golf Design as our architect and he began the process this past April. A task force has been formed to work with Mike as the planning / design process moves forward consisting of Kathie Sankey, Steve Herndon, Lynn Robinson, Fred Anschutz, Greg Lebeck, Jeff Ostlund, Dean Hall, and Harry Ward. The task force has conducted input meetings with all of the golf associations as well as the TVA and have received comments, suggestions, and observations from the membership to be considered during the master planning process. This input is welcome and needed so feel free to contact any task force member with your input and items you would like considered. We expect to begin seeing some preliminary renderings within the next 30 - 45 days for the task force to review and discuss. There will be an opportunity for the TVGC membership
to provide input prior to the Master Plan finalization. So, stay tuned and let us know of any of your concerns or suggestions.
LRP Committee:
The LRP Committee now consists of Terry Uffelman, Don Cooke, Dave Mooty, Jim Anton, and Harry Ward, chair. (BOD liasion: Mitch Galnick)

 | First Tee of Phoenix News |
Greetings to all who are away, and all who are still here in the heat. As previously mentioned, the Tonto Verde Golf Club will be hosting a First Tee of Phoenix Odyssey Club event on Sunday, June 23rd. Four tee times have been allocated to First Tee Odyssey Club participants and their coaches/mentors. The first tee time on the Peaks Course will be at 10:36. Each group will consist of three young people and one coach. I would like to invite all Club Members to consider greeting these First Tee players and welcoming them to Tonto Verde. I expect they can be found on the range by around 10 A.M. Feel free to join us. I would also like to open each of the four tee times to a Tonto Verde Golf Club member who might like to play along. Depending on the response, I may suggest each member play only nine holes, but let's just wait and see on that one. In any case, I expect it will be an exciting day for the First Tee participants, and for those of us here who are able to meet, greet, and perhaps join them on the course. If interested in playing, please contact me via email or phone per the information below.
Please remember these young people are becoming successful in life as well as being able to enjoy our wonderful golf course through your generosity. Again, thank YOU!!
Best regards,
Steve Calandrella
