 Greetings!

As one looks at the Golf Event Calendar it becomes very obvious that we are in the "meat" of the golf season that brings with it events and opportunities for all of us to participate.  Also, as we have a number of Guest events it is an opportunity to expose our friends to what we have here at Tonto Verde. Those of us that have been a guest at another facility know how special what we have is and should rightly be very proud to be a part of this great community.

This brings us to the Temporary Membership and Discovery programs. Both are aimed at exposing potential homeowners and golf members to Tonto Verde. You can find more on both programs in this newsletter and on our website.
Notes From Your Pro

If you are considering new equipment the upcoming demo days may be just the thing. Try all the different brands  and even more importantly work with different setups - shafts and lofts - to find the right fit for your game.

February 7th - Ping, Adams, Cobra, Cleveland, Nike

10:00am - 3:00pm

February 14th - TaylorMade

Jeff Ostlund
Golf Course Desert Maintenance Policy
January 10, 2013

In a collaborative effort to enhance the aesthetics of the Tonto Verde Community, the Tonto Verde Golf Course Superintendent, the Green Committee and the Tonto Verde Association have agreed on the following Golf Course Desert Maintenance Policy.

Purpose:

To maintain a continuous active program to control desert weeds and preserve the natural beauty and health of our desert plants by removing deadwood; thinning and trimming trees, as necessary to prevent storm damage and to maintain plant health.

Procedures:

All homeowner special maintenance requests should be submitted in written form, addressed to the Tonto Verde Golf Course Superintendent and delivered to the Tonto Verde Association office and placed into the mailbox for the Golf Club Maintenance Department.

Suggestions and requests from homeowners will be evaluated by the Tonto Verde Golf Course Superintendent and responded to in a reasonable time frame.

Temporary Membership

Our 2012-2013 Temporary Membership program is a success.  Seven couples are enjoying the benefits of this new program, which we hope will help them to fall in love with Tonto Verde and join TVGC permanently.  While these Temporary Memberships are for golf privileges only for up to 6 months, most of these couples are renting in the community which enables them to experience all of the amenities of the community. Please note that charging at either the restaurant or Golf Shop is not part of the program. If you want to share information about this program with friends, the flier for Temporary Memberships can be found by Clicking Here.  Also, you can Click Here for the application for Temporary Memberships. We Need Your Help!
Please help us raise the visibility of Tonto Verde and the TVGC on the Internet!

The TVA has employed a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) company to help us raise our visibility on the web. This will help Tonto Verde attract people who are searching the web for places to retire.

When doing an internet search (through Google, Bing, etc), did you know that:

  • The number of times people access a website raises that website on the list
  • Specific key words that are used on pages associated with that website raises that website on the list
  • The current updates and information puts the website higher on the list

We need to keep our website "hot" and filled with positive, current, interesting, and diverse information about Tonto Verde, our community, activities and surroundings. One of the ways we do this is through the "BLOG" spot on our website.

We're looking for volunteers to write blogs for the website. We'll provide you with guidelines about blogging, and topics (if you don't have enough of your own), but generally, we need you to just share an experience, event, or observations about TV and the area. It helps people looking for an "Active Adult Community" on the web to learn just how active and wonderful this community is.

If you are interested in helping Tonto Verde by writing one or two blogs a month, please contact Samantha Bryner at Samantha@TontoVerdeAssociation.com.

Pace Of Play
There is an old adage - No Golf Course Can Play Any Faster Than The Slowest Group On The Course - and as we move into the "Busy" season here at Tonto Verde Golf Club pace of play will become increasingly important. Nobody likes to wait on every shot as it works to kill any momentum we have. So, what are things we can do to not unduly delay play?
  • Play ready golf - if you are not in somebody's line hit when you get to your ball
  • In a team or partner game if you can no longer contribute pick up your ball
  • Do not spend more time than necessary searching for your ball in the desert -  the rule is 5 minutes but most of us can determine in less time than that whether or not we will find our ball.
  • As soon as you reach the green begin reading the break and lining up your putt. When it's your turn be prepared to step right up and pull the trigger.
  • When putting a club back in your bag, grab the next club you're going to use to avoid an additional pit stop behind your cart. Sometimes you may not know what club you'll be using next, but it definitely saves time when you know you're putting or hitting a driver off the next tee.
  • If possible when sharing a cart, drop the first player off at his/her ball and drive ahead to the second ball. The first player can walk over to the cart while the second player is hitting their shot.
  • Help struggling golfers rake traps, fill in divots and repair ball marks. We've all been there and a helping hand is surely appreciated when you're having one of those holes.
