 Greetings!

The calendar is getting slimmer and slimmer, the weather is getting better (here at least! Can't say much for most of the rest of the country.) and we begin to see some of our members heading out to their summer retreats. However, we are still seeing plenty of activity here at the Tonto Verde Golf Club. A couple of season ending events for the WGA and MGA and the MGA Cup among the upcoming activities.

Our members are the best ambassadors that we have for TVGC and we invite all that are heading for cooler climes to let your friends and neighbors know what a marvelous place Tonto Verde is and encourage them to schedule a visit this coming fall or winter. We still have the Discovery Program that offers a splendid way to experience TVGC and the surrounding area. With the new range of membership options Tonto Verde Golf Club may be the right fit for a wider group, particularly those that have not reached full retirement age but are ready to make the investment.

From The President

Last Wednesday at the shortened Annual Meeting, the membership elected Bill Banholzer, Clarence Hein and Sharon Kroner to three-year terms on your Tonto Verde Golf Club Board of Directors. We welcome them to our team.

Also elected officers for the 2013-14 year are:

  • Scott Thiss, President
  • Susan Warzecka, Vice President
  • Dave Burns, Secretary
  • Clarence Hein, Treasurer

Retiring directors are Tom Schouten, President and Dale Humiston, Treasurer. I know the entire membership is grateful for their many contributions and commitment to our golf community.  On behalf of all of us a BIG THANKS!

As discussed in the Town Hall meeting on April 5th, there are many exciting things happening at the Club. A link to the slides presented can be found by Clicking Here.

Under the direction of Harry Ward the Master Plan Task Force is taking shape. An initial meeting was held with golf course architect Mike Gogel to identify members who would be well qualified to serve.  They are Members:  Fred Anschutz, Steve Herndon, Greg Lebeck, Lynn Robinson, Kathie Sankey, Harry Ward (Chair). Professional Staff: Dean Hall and Jeff Ostlund. The Task Force is busy setting up input meetings with many golf constituent groups before people begin returning to summer residences. If asked to participate please give the Task Force your honest opinions.

Also our new membership plans have attracted numerous inquiries and several new members. The Flex Membership, oriented to the still working (not retired) prospect has drawn the most attention. Gary Loving, Sales Director, is working aggressively to stay in touch with our good prospects.

From The Greens Committee
  • Entry gates are gone for the summer.  Please observe the 90 degree rule. Drive down the cart path until you reach the first ball from your two-some and enter the fairway at 90 degrees at that point.  Then proceed down the fairway until you hit your shot to the green and immediately exit the fairway at 90 degrees.
  • Grass seed prices have sky rocketed, we will improvise and adjust accordingly.
  • We are now raking the bottoms of the bunkers and smoothing the sides.  This takes less man hours and provides a smoother surface on the sides of the bunkers.
  • Join us for the Super's (Superintendent's) Challenge on May 8 - Create your own foursome team... OR... sign up as a twosome and the golf shop will pair you! Format: Four person, team ball event -Each person plays his/her ball but there is one pink ball per hole.
Vista Verde Update

Rio Verde Services Press Release

April 13, 2013

As many are aware, the underlying land owners of Vista Verde and Rio Verde Services have been in negotiations with Toll Brothers Homes for the possible sale of the Vista Verde community and golf course. Toll Brothers informed the Company that while Vista Verde has a great deal of potential, the developmental time frame did not meet their immediate needs.   After a great deal of investigation and discussion the parties were not able to arrive at satisfactory terms and have mutually agreed to discontinue negotiations.

Rio Verde Services is the development company for the several Verdes communities of Rio Verde, Tonto Verde and Vista Verde. These communities collectively consist of over 2,500 home sites and five golf courses. Vista Verde is planned for 842 home sites within 851 acres. The first phase consists of 185 single family lots plus two parcels for future townhomes.

Vista Verde Golf continues to operate the golf facility and has scheduled spring and summer promotions for the golfing public.

Open Letter to the Tonto Verde Men's Golf Association Membership

Gentlemen;

As our very busy six month season is drawing to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your support and participation this year.

To our MGA Board, as scripted by the late and great Dr. Norman Vincent Peale in his classic book entitled "Enthusiasm Makes A Difference", I thank them for allowing me to witness and be part of the "Enthusiasm" brought to the table at each Board meeting and event planning session.  Their commitment and dedication clearly confirms my belief that the T.E.A.M. concept truly means Together Each Accomplishes More!  I would like to extend my personal thanks to each of them for a great year.

To our 338 members, I also thank you for your record breaking participation including increased meeting attendance, event participation, constructive suggestions, co-operation and appreciation.  Having Just finished our 18th Annual Desert Classic Invitational last week, I also thank all of the many member volunteers and Tonto Verde Golf and Clubhouse staff who contributed their time and talent to make this, our premier event, the best ever.  Of course nothing happens without leadership, and this year we were blessed to have a great Desert Classic leader in Chairman Russ Chance.  Russ is your new President beginning at our Annual Meeting at the end of this month.  We are all very fortunate to have Russ as part of our great Community and Golf Club.

Lastly, I would like to thank the 17 Past Presidents of the TVMGA for their vision and leadership. As  I understand our Associations formation, a group of 5-6 men met on Dick Lenox's patio and decided to form a "Men's Group".  Dick became the first President in 1995 and still visits Tonto Verde annually to attend the Past Presidents Golf Event in April.  Thank you to Dick and all that have led us to this point in our history.

Jon Jay Lynch

TVMGA President 2012-2013

From The CGA

The Mixed Member/Member tournament was held on Sunday, March 24.  Don and Lynn Cooke were the overall gross members, and Ken and Beth Holec were the overall net winners.

On Friday, April 5, a full field enjoyed a buffet dinner and then participated in the "Glo-Ball" tournament on our 18 hole putting green.  Amazingly, there were 13 holes-in-one in the pitch dark!    Fun was had by all, and it looks like it will be an annual event!

Next up is Cinco de Mayo on May 5.  A morning shotgun will be held with a best-ball man, best-ball woman event, and an afternoon shotgun will feature a scramble.  All to be followed by a popular festive Mexican dinner.  Sign up is on ForeTees.
