 Greetings!

Exciting times are coming - both the men's and women's big guest events, club championships, season ending events including the MGA Cup and worthwhile charity events. Many of these events are full but most have waiting lists and every year some on the waiting lists are in the event so don't hesitate to sign-up.

Sometime we have to talk about housekeeping items and today is one of those times. Lately we have witnessed an increase in two specific types of litter on our courses - Cigar Butts and Cigarette Butts, including the filters. Now none of us would even think about leaving such items on our own or somebody else's property and we should give the same consideration to our courses. There are trash receptacles at every tee box, at the restrooms and by the golf shop leaving little excuse for using the courses as a trash heap. Thanks for your help!
From The Golf Committee

1. Just a reminder that we will be utilizing cross-over tee times on the Peaks golf course only  and only on Saturdays.  This will continue through March.  This procedure provides 9-12 additional tee times and thus increases accessibility to our golf courses during the busy season.

2.  Due to high demand,  tee times have been added to the women's Thursday open tee times.  In addition, three nine-hole tee times will begin on the back nine.

3.  In line with the Club's general policy, fivesomes are allowed and are expected to adhere to pace of play guidelines.  As these tee times are to be open to any woman, the use of "x's" on the ForeTees system is discouraged.

INTERCLUB TEAM RESULTS

Tonto Verde participates in 3 separate leagues, the Roadrunner, Cactus and Sonoran, with 8 golf clubs participating in each. The Roadrunner League is a total stroke play competition.  After 5 events our Tonto Verde ladies are in 4th place gross but are sitting in 1st place net with only 3 events remaining.  The Cactus and Sonoran Leagues are match play competitions. The Cactus team has had some close matches but after 5 events have won the net points in all of them with the exception of 1 which they tied. The Sonoran team is playing some great golf and currently sits in second place gross, first place net and in second place overall.  We wish them all continued success through the remainder of the season.

HOHOKAM CLASSIC March 19 - 21

Planning is well underway for 3 days of great golf, food and friendship.  Invite your guest before entries close on February 20 and celebrate "Jewels of the Desert" with us.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS March 14 - 15

Plan to sign up for this year's Club Championships.   Enjoy two days of stroke play competition within your own flight.  Now is a great time to take advantage of the Golf Fix and other Special Clinics being offered by our club professionals so that your game is in top form come March.

MGA News

Hard to believe but we are starting to talk about season ending events. Having said that, there are plenty opportunities to accrue MGA Cup points so check the calendar and make certain that you have signed-up for the events.

Remember to sign-up for the March 6th Breakfast, Golf and Meeting at 8AM for breakfast followed by a 9:30 shotgun start.

Also "save the date" for our annual MGA Closing Golf and Awards Banquet on Wednesday 4/24 with a noon shotgun.

Don't forget that each of the regular Wednesday Men's Day events accrue MGA Cup points. So if you are not playing in the Spring Best Ball event regular Wednesday Men's Day times will be available to accrue MGA Cup points.

While the field for the the Member/Member, February 25th and 27th, and the Desert Classic, April 11th to April 13th, are currently full and a waiting list has been started don't hesitate to add your team to the waiting list.  Every year there are cancellations and some on the waiting list make the events.

The First Tee of Phoenix (www.thefirstteephoenix.org), located at 9510 South 7th Street, utilizes golf and other programs to teach young people life skills that allow them to face challenges at home, school, and play in a constructive manner.  Founded in 2003 in partnership with The Thunderbirds Jr. Golf Foundation and The First Tee national program headquartered in St. Augustine, FL, impacts the lives of over 80,000 youth per year at six area locations.  They provide a foundation for the acquisition and internalization of the First Tee Nine Core Values - honesty, integrity, respect, responsibility, courtesy, sportsmanship, confidence, judgment, and perspective.  Their vision is to further impact tens of thousands of youth by inspiring adults to mentor, coach, volunteer, and invest financially.  Their programs are linked with the National School Program, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, YMCA, church groups and other organizations; and are offered to young people between the ages of 4 and 17 years.  They work to instill into these young people such healthy habits as fitness and nutrition, maintaining quality friendships, dealing with bullies, and contributing to healthy family and community relationships.  All equipment and monetary contributions are most welcomed, and our Tonto Verde Golf Club liaison to The First Tee of Phoenix is Steve Calandrella, TVMGA director.  Golf clubs, bags, balls, shoes, clothing, and accessories can be donated by contacting Steve for pickup at 471-7229, dropping items off at his home at 19106 E. Tonto Verde Drive, or bringing them to the Golf Shop where Jeff has made some limited storage space available.  Thank you all for your continued support.
