UM's Diversity in Spotlight as Thought Leaders Exchange Ideas on South Florida as Latin American Hub and Premier Real Estate Destination
Gene Anderson, dean of the School of Business, was among the thought leaders who shared their perspectives about South Florida at the Forbes LATAM South Florida Real Estate Forum in Miami July 23. The TED-style conference featured discussions on topics ranging from emerging neighborhoods in South Florida to real estate marketing in 2050.
Korean Dignitaries Visit School to Explore Collaboration
School of Business administrators met in July with a delegation of business and government leaders visiting from South Korea. The meeting, which included Yonchang Kim, the vice mayor for economic affairs for Daegu Metropolitan City and Stein Jongsik Woo, the chairman and CEO of Bio Medical City, was held to explore potential collaboration in health care focused business education.
New MBA Class Brings Together Diverse Group of Professionals
Orientation was held in July for the School's newest Professional MBA program class. The class of 35 working professionals includes students from nine countries including Colombia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, China, and Zambia. And nearly a third of the class is made of up of women professionals. The Professional MBA program meets on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. The next class begins in January, along with the next classes in the School's Executive MBA programs.

América Economía - July 22, 2014 - The leading Latin American business magazine published an article about Spanish-language MBA programs, noting that the School offers a one-of-a-kind Spanish language Global Executive MBA program, as well as The Miami Executive MBA for the Americas program, both of which target Latin American executives. The article included quotes from Anuj Mehrotra, vice dean for graduate business programs, and Susanna Alvarez, director of the School's entrepreneurship programs. Article

 

WLRN Radio - July 22, 2014 - A segment about the court ruling that struck down federal subsidies for those getting insurance purchasing insurance through the Affordable Care Act's federal exchanges included quotes from Steve Ullmann, director of the School's Center for Health Sector Management and Policy, who noted that "Congress did intend that people have access to insurance to provide comprehensive insurance through the country to move toward universal health care coverage." The segment also aired on WGCU Radio in Fort Myers. Listen

Miami Herald - July 22, 2014 - An article about the court ruling that struck down federal subsidies for those getting insurance purchasing insurance through the Affordable Care Act's federal exchanges included quotes from Steve Ullmann, director of the School's Center for Health Sector Management and Policy, who noted if fewer Americans get insurance, that will "drive up costs for insurers'' and "that drives up premiums.'' América Economía - July 17, 2014 - An article in the leading Latin American business magazine about the increasing need for physicians to have business knowledge and skills cited the School's Executive MBA in Health Sector Management programs, as source for these skills. The article included quotes from Steve Ullmann, director of the School's Center for Health Sector Management and Policy. Article

 

Harvard Business Review - July 16, 2014 - In a blog article, Robert Plant, associate professor of information systems, wrote that IT leaders are becoming increasingly appreciated for their business knowledge and will become "fully integrated into the core strategic work of the firm, the business itself." Article

Forbes - July 11, 2014 - An online article about Facebook's recent emotional experiment with users included insight from Juliano Laran, associate professor of marketing, who noted that this was an example of a "priming effect" which he studies in his research. Article

Forbes - July 1, 2014 - An online article focused on research by Claudia Townsend, an assistant professor of marketing, which found exposure to attractive objects makes people more open to financial risk-taking. The article included a Q&A with Townsend, who noted that "our findings are likely most relevant in situations where consumers might have a natural inclination to doubt the marketer or perceive purchase as risky." Article
