Fire Department

Fire Dept logoCarbon Monoxide Alarm Requirements

City Ordinances require that every residential rental property dwelling unit in the City of Covington be equipped with at least one approved carbon monoxide alarm in operating condition within 15 feet of every room that is used for sleeping purposes.  It is the responsibility of the owner of any structure in which a residential rental dwelling unit is located to supply and install all required carbon monoxide alarms.  If such alarms are battery operated, the owner shall ensure that the alarm batteries are in operating condition at the time the tenant takes possession of the dwelling unit.
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Overview  Carbon monoxide (sometimes referred to as CO) is a colorless, odorless gas produced by burning material containing carbon. Carbon monoxide poisoning can cause brain damage and death. You can't see it, smell it, or taste it; but carbon monoxide can kill you.

● Carbon monoxide is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America. This odorless, tasteless, and colorless gas is known as the "Silent Killer." The Centers for Disease Control estimates that carbon monoxide poisoning claims nearly 500 lives, and causes more than 15,000 visits to hospital emergency departments annually.

● Carbon monoxide is produced by common household appliances. When not properly ventilated, carbon monoxide emitted by these appliances can build up.

● Early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, such as headaches, nausea, and fatigue, are often mistaken for the flu because the deadly gas goes undetected in a home. Prolonged exposure can lead to brain damage and even death.

When you start having financial trouble, you must remember to keep the lines of communication open!

Open notices from your mortgage loan servicer and respond to them promptly. Contact them as soon as you have a problem. Your loan servicer is listed on your monthly mortgage statement or payment coupons that you send your mortgage payment to every month.

By calling your mortgage loan servicer as soon as you know you may have a problem making your monthly mortgage payment, you give them and yourself more time to find a solution.

If you are unable to work with your servicer, please contact the KentuckyHomeownershipProtectionCenter to schedule a free session with an approved counselor.

Keep in mind that as long as a sale on you home is not final, a work out process can still take place, but the earlier in the process you begin discussions, the more likely it is. A work out might include reducing the monthly payment amount, reducing the monthly payment amount, reducing the interest rat or extending the mortgage term.

The ProtectionCenter can also help you find assistance to pay for your utilities and necessary home repairs.

For more information, contact the ProtectionCenter and speak to a representative to help you find the help you need.

Human Resources Department
The Human Resources Department is pleased to announce their new "Career Center."  Employment Applications are now accepted on line for all open positions.  In addition to on-line applications, prospective candidates can set up a search agent to notify them when a position becomes available by email - so you never have to miss an opportunity.

The Career Center is accessible through the City of Covington website using the JOBS tab.  If you don't have home computer, there is a computer in the Human Resources Department that is available for application purposes.   The Kenton County Library system offers internet access from library computers and are free to the public.

If you are unable to use any of the resources listed above, please contact our office at 859-292-2161 for alternative arrangements.

More than half a million people find themselves victims of identity theft each year. If you're an ID thief's mark, you'll likely face years of lost money and added frustration as you work to clean up the mess.

* Be watchful of shoulder-surfers at ATMs and phone booths;
* Mind those credit card receipts. Only a few credit card receipts have stopped listing full account numbers and expiration dates;
*  Buy a shredder and use it. Shred everything;
*  Write clearly on all credit applications. Fill in all credit and loan applications using your full name, first, middle and last. Every bill that comes to your house should be addressed exactly the same;
*  Limit the number of credit cards you carry;
*  Get a credit report at least once a year and clean up any errors;
*  Protect your Social Security number. Only give your Social Security number when absolutely necessary;
*  Never carry your Social Security number and driver license together in your wallet;

The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center

The Carnegie in Concert series continues on Thursday, November 20 at 7:30 pm with a performance by internationally lauded guitarist Richard Goering.  He joins WGUC's nationally-syndicated radio hosts Suzanne Bona (flute) and Naomi Lewin (mezzo-soprano) in an eclectic concert featuring Spanish folk songs, lute works by John Dowland, and rarely performed works including the captivating Platero y Yo, a poetry setting for guitar and narrator.  Praised as "elegant" by Rome's CORRIERE DELLA SERA and "exquisite" by the LOUISVILLE COURIER JOURNAL, Goering's selections will delight both the initiated connoisseur and the casual music listener in the intimate Otto M. Budig Theatre.
